Description

Task One: a. For each of the four questions on the survey, classify the data collected as categorical, ordinal, discrete or continuous. 1. What is your age? Is continuous 2. What is your sex? Is categorical 3. Do you drink milkshakes? Is categorical 4. What is your favourite milkshake flavour? Is categorical

b. State the expected data range for question 1 on the survey. Explain why you have chosen this range; (answer in one sentence). The expected age range would be from about 10-80. Any younger and they are too young to fill out a survey, any older they are too old to fill out a survey and they may not be able to drive to get the milkshake. c. Rewrite question 1 from the survey so that it will have categorical answers. Please circle your age range: 0-10

d. Sandi received 57 responses. Three of these should not be used. State which three and explain why they should be discarded. Survey respondent 8 should not be used because it doesn’t state whether they drink milkshakes or not and doesn’t state the flavour. 19 shouldn’t be used because they put ‘pink’ as a flavour. 42 should not be used because they put ‘Y’ as their gender. e. Use only the 54 acceptable responses when completing this question. Use the table of responses to complete a frequency table for favourite milkshake flavour. In your table, use the three headings: Milkshake flavour, Tally, Frequency Milkshake Flavour Vanilla Banana Caramel Chocolate Lime Honeycomb

Task Two: Part A 1. Introduction: a) Explain why this report is written: the aim of this report is to determine which flavour of milkshake Sandi, the owner of a new eatery in a shopping centre, should sell. b) Briefly describe what the report will cover: the report will cover a survey of customers. They customers write their age, gender, whether they drink milkshakes or not, and if they do, what flavour of milkshake they prefer. From the results, Sandi will choose the milkshake flavours she is going to sell. 2. Analysis of data and results a) Analyse the data that Sandi has gathered about the milkshake flavours. You may also refer to your frequency distribution table from Task 1.

11 people chose Vanilla as their favourite flavour of milkshake, caramel was the next most favourite with 8 people liking it, coconut was the least favourite with only one person choosing it, mango, honeycomb and lime all had 4 people choose it as their favourite flavour, b) State any conclusions regarding flavour choices that could be made from the data that has been collected.

In conclusion, in addition to the 3 pre chosen flavours of Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla, Sandi should sell caramel, banana and either lime, mango or honeycomb to make up the 6 flavour she wants to sell. 3. Analysis of questionnaire and collection method a) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the chosen method of the survey. Advantages: this survey is simple and easy to understand,

Disadvantages: the survey could be time consuming, and not everyone can fill it out e.g.

anyone younger couldn’t fill it out as they may not be able to read or write, the same goes for anyone older, and then there is blind people etc. b) Discuss the data collection method used by Sandi.

The data collection used by Sandi was a table which had 5 columns: respondent, age, sex, Milkshakes and favourite flavour, it was a simple way to store the data. To get the data she made a simple 4 question survey where people filled out their age, gender whether they drink milkshakes or not and if they do drink milkshakes what kind of flavour they prefer. c) Analyse the questions used in the questionnaire. Include in your analysis any problems with specific question types or recording methods used. This may include stating if any bias has been introduced or assumptions made due to the questions or collection method used.

Most people don’t want to write their age so if you made it where they circled their age range, it would be less biased and not invading their privacy as much. The questions were not complicated and it was easy to understand the questions. 4. Conclusion The conclusion should contain one or two sentences giving an overview of your findings about the survey itself, the questions used, how the data was collected and the relevance of the results.

The survey was easy to understand, simple and the questions used were simple and to the point. The data was collected in a table that clearly showed the results and whether the results were relevant. 5. Recommendations a) Clearly outline for Sandi, an appropriate method of gathering the data.

Sandi needed to combine common answers to make the survey even easier and quicker to complete. It would then be easier for Sandi to read and compile the data. By grouping age ranges, it minimises personal information given out, thus not making the survey biased. b) Provide a replacement survey. (You may choose to use some of the questions from Sandi’s questionnaire as is, or use improved versions. You may also include other questions.)
