SILENCER HISTORY  The term “silencer” was coined by Hiram P. Maxim to describe the rst commercially successful rearm signature reduction device. Silencers were used by both sides in every major conict of the 20th century. The new millennium saw the United States take point in the Global War on Terror. Terror. AAC and the architects of the dynamic new battleeld have elevated silencers from an accessory to vital combat equipment. With user input, we compress innovation and technology into a critical mass resulting in gear that gives our warghters a combat advantage.

HOW  SILENCERS  WORK

SILENCER BENEFITS always use Protection Silencers protect the shooter and those nearly from temporary hearing threshold shift and from irreversible hearing loss, which can result from single shot exposure.

coMMand and control Silencers help users maintain command and control by enabling team members to communicate during l ive re.

night vision Silencers prevent “blooming” of night vision equipment and help preserve unaided night vision by eliminating muzzle ash.

weaPon control Firearm silencers work in the same manner as mufers for cars and lawn mowers. Both provide a controlled environment that allows gases to expand and cool before exiting into the air with less energy and noise.  A typical silencer has a casing segregated into chambers by partitions called bafes. Each bafe has a passage through which a projectile can pass. pass. When the host

MATERIAL SELECTION The bafes in a 5.56mm silencer have one of the hardest jobs on earth. Not only do they have to contend with a blow-torch assault from the super heated muzzle gases, but they are also bombarded with particles of unconsumed propellant traveling faster than the speed of sound. This gives bafes made from ordinary ordinary steel a complexion like the dark side of the moon in less than 100 rounds. Some companies have addressed this challenge by using a high temperature alloy known as Inconel™. As with other metals, there are various grades of Inconel™ alloy. The 600 series Inconel™ used by some companies for their bafes is a corrosion-resistant alloy designed for chemical resistance, but is not the best choice for heat or erosion resistance. 600 series Inconel™ cannot match the properties of the more costly heat treated Inconel™ 718 found in AAC silencers. We select materials so the end product is extremely durable and lightweight. We carefully calculate the thickness of the outer tube to provide the greatest strength and minimize heat mirage, which can interfere with optics in as few as 3 shots with

other designs.  All silencers in the BLACKOUT™ series feature 100% heat-treated Inconel™ 718 bafes and endcaps to provide the ultimate in use-it-all-the-time durability. with a design philosophy called SCILENCE™, the discipline of solving problems with science and a desire to break convention and deliver the impossible. This SCILENT™ design philosophy blends state-of-the-art computer design and high-tech metallurgy to choose optimum bafe shapes, spacing, and materials. But successfully choosing the world’s world’s best materials is only half the story. New ideas demand new technologies, and sometimes breaking with conventional assembly methods such as hand applied spot welds or adhesive, otherwise known as “glue.” “glue.” We invented a new assembly technique that uses robot welders to fuse each component into a module using full-penetration circumferential welds. These monolithic assemblies are encased in outer tubes using the same robotic fusion welding. To eliminate the effects of heat distortion from welding, a taper-bore Electro Discharge Machining (EDM) process is applied to ensure the central aperture through the silencer is concentric with the bore of the rie. This assembly process provides the accuracy and minimal zero-shift zero-shift that our users demand. Is this the easiest or cheapest way to put a silencer together? No way, but this is the formula that allows us to challenge the limits of conventional thinking and produce the best silencers on the planet.

MOUNT SYSTEMS sPring Mount™  AAC’s original fast-attach mount system provides simple and trouble-free mounting. Originally, a single Inconel™ spring in the base of the silencer contacted the teeth on the mount. The system has been updated with a second offset spring to provide an even more secure joining of the silencer and host weapon.

silencer on the weapon in under three seconds without the use of tools and with no moving parts. The silencer is easily installed using gross motor skills, and the ergonomic thumb latch gives both audible and tactile feedback to let you know the silencer is securely mounted. The required motion is easily performed in the dark, while wearing gloves, or under stress. While other silencers may install quickly, their mounting systems can become nearly impossible to disengage after only one magazine of use. Expansion from heat, carbon and copper buildup, and and an inadequate gripping surface can make other silencers difcult to remove. Users have a mechanical advantage when removing an AAC Ratchet Mount™ silencer. The very action of dismounting a Ratchet Mount™ silencer breaks the bonds of copper and carbon that c an solder less inspired silencer designs to their ash hiders.

FLASH FL ASH HISTORY  HISTORY  When AAC built the rst M4-2000 silencers back in 2001, the ash hider portion of the rst fast-attach mounts was heavily inuenced by the M16-A1 design, which dates back to the 1960s. When used on longer 16- to 20-inch barrels, this design does an admirable job of suppressing muzzle ash. On weapons with CQB-length barrels, however, the the performance was disappointing. When we set out to improve the performance on shorter barrels, we sought out the best ash hider currently available and licensed the design. This ash hider was a big step in the right di rection, as it offered dramatically improved improved ash reduction over the A2 style when used on 14.5- and 10-inch barrels. However, under rigorous, high-volume, high-volume, military-style testing, the very features that make this design work so well actually become its Achilles’ heel. What we needed to do was invent a ash hider that combined the best ash reduction capability available with durability capable of withstanding the hotter-than-hell, erosive erosive environment of a silencer’s blast chamber. chamber.

Blackout™ Flash hider So we hit the lab and built, tested, and tortured approximately 30 prototype ash hiders in six weeks. We emerged with the BLACKOUT™ three-prong three-prong design ash

RIFLE SILENCERS The merits of silenced centerre ries are numerous and undeniable. Military and Law Enforcement personnel benet from the elimination of visible ash and muzzle blast as well as the reduced likeli hood of sustaining permanent hearing loss when engaged in CQC. Civilian sport shooters marvel at the reduction in group size and the ability to witness bullet impact through their optic due to a reduction in recoil of up to 60 percent and a 98 percent reduction in muzzle report.  AAC rie silencers are inventoried by major arms manufacturers and can be found in service with military and police organizations around the globe. The high performance, lightweight designs have a minimal effect on host weapon balance and will reduce sound signatures down to below the pain threshold, limiting the risk for hearing damage. All of our rie silencers are manufactured from heat treated corrosion resistant steels and are 100% fusion welded using the latest CNC technology. OWNERSHIP OF SILENCERS Silencers, like machine-guns, are regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934, and are regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Tobacco, and Firearms. NFA items can be registered to an individual, non-revokable living trust, or a corporation.* The procedure for owning a silencer may seem daunting at rst, but actually requires less paperwork than buying an automobile. To legally purchase a silencer or any item falling under the purview of t he NFA, you must be at least 21 years of age, a resident of the United States, and have no felony record. The rst step is to locat e a Class 3 dealer in your st ate who either has or will order the item you are interested in. Once a product and price have been settled on, the Class 3 dealer will provide the prospective purchaser with duplicate ATF Form 4’s and two sets of ngerprint cards. The Form 4’s must be lled out on both sides, with passport photos of the prospective buyer afxed to the backside of the form. The buyer then has the Chief Law-Enforcement ofcer sign the rear of the Form 4’s attesting the prospective purchaser does not possess a

criminal record and is not wanted. The two ngerprint cards must be completed and signed by a Law Enforcement agency. The completed paperwork is then sent to the Department of t he Treasury Treasury with a check or money order for $200.00. The $200.00 is known as a “transfer tax” because it must be paid whenever ownership of the silencer is “transferred” (in this
