HOW TO SELECT THE EFFECTIVITY?

EFFECTIVITY DISPLAY MANAGEMENT

With AirN@v you can filter the display of data for one Aircraft:

TYPICAL EXAMPLE The effectivity is written in red colour. The effectivity ensures that the information in a given manual is applicable for a precise aircraft fleet serial number. This effectivity is expressed in FSN for customized manuals, like the AMM. On NC ALL means: Task effective for ALL Aircraft in the fleet.

• first select the filtering function, • second deselect All aircraft", • third select your aircraft (Example FSN 0035). Automatically AirN@v re calculate the display depending of your "User preferences".

At subtask level you may fine different applicability such as: • •

subtask effective for Aircraft FSN 051 to 099 and 101 to 199, subtask effective for Aircraft 201 to 299.

TSM PHILOSOPHY & DATA RETRIEVAL GENERAL Most A/C systems are able to signal both the FWC and the CFDIU I CMC. The other systems (without BITE) simply signal the FWC through the SDAC. The FWC is certified to generate the relevant Warning or Status indicating the precise condition of the failed or degraded system. Therefore, the FWC provides the status against the applicable MEL for the NC dispatcheability: NO GO; GO IF or GO. The OMS (Computer CFDIU I CMC and BITES) provides an aid for the maintenance, by collecting the Fault Messages in correlation with 1 in addition of the associated Warnings. The AIC defects, named also "Cockpit effects"are usually entered by the Pilots in the Tech. Logbook. Some entries can also be initiated by the Maintenance (Observation, request for maintenance, ..). The engineer collects the "Fault symptom" out of the Logbook and the PFR and then gets access into the relevant malfunction in the TSM Index. From the TSM procedure some relevant test(s) may be accomplished through the MCDU.

Night Stop at Main Base is the opportunity to review both Techlogs and PFRs for: • •

the chronic histories or repeaters (after unsuccessful T/S) the intermittent histories (observation of Fault but associated Test is OK), • Maintenance Status (CL 2) for the SA family, • Deferred items for the Long Range family. As stated in the TSM Chapter 00- INTRO, the count of 3 consecutive indicated faults (despite its Test showing OK) recommends the start of a comprehensive T/S on the suspected system.

TDTI / HAT / ATA 00

Issue: 10/08

A review of the history of Fault messages listed in PFRs may reveal stabilized fault at a dispatcheable level, but that may develop: leading to: • •

a pilot entry in logbook: a pilot entry with an unavoidable delay (or non acceptable probability for such a delay) The preventive maintenance allows the maintenance operator to set up the appropriate trouble shooting action before the malfunction develops and compromises the A/C dispatch.

MEANS FOR TECHNICAL/ OPERATIONAL ISSUES Airbus Customer Services provides communication means ( listed in SIL 00-052 ) used : •

to request urgent technical actions or application of specific operational procedures necessary to maintain safe aircraft operation, • to inform Airbus Operators about significant technical and/or operational events as well as to re-emphasize compliance with technical and/or operational procedures, • to provide reference for deviations from technical and or operational standards. The often used documents explained here with more details are : • the TFU, • the SIL. Among the SIL, are the SIL 00-028 / 038 / 041 / 078, covering the messages/BITE deviations ( for which the statement " NO MAINTENANCE ACTION ,if.. " may exist ) Such Document key information is migrated accordingly to the relevant Maintenance Manuals, for the Line & Base maintenance. If not yet incorporated in the Manuals, the AIRLINE ENGINEERING can retrieve such information and dispatch this key information through Airline internal documents. The Airbus Technical Services by which the AIRLINE ENGINEERING can retrieve such technical information are : 1 - AirN@v / Maintenance, 2 - AIRMAN, 3 - AirN@v / Engineering, 4 - Airbus I world.

Such CFDS ( or CMS ) anomalies or BITE deviations are commonly called "spurrious messages".

The SIL provides information to assist operators on particular issues, with other documents cross references ( MPD, TFU, AMM / IPC ).

Such anomalies are linked to a particular Computer Part Number and any applicable TFU reference number or TSM.

This supportive information can be related to ( not limited to) :

Indeed, a few TSM procedure are created to address the required troubleshooting in order to investigate and fix such unwanted Warning or Fault Message.

1 - component evolution, 2 -troubleshooting recommendations,

MMEL - CDL MMEL MMEL PURPOSE Safety related items not listed in the MMEL are automatically required to be operative at dispatch. Items, which do not affect the airworthiness of the aircraft (such as commercial and convenience items) are GO from a MMEL point of view. A MMEL item is either a piece of equipment, a function, an instrument or a system.

ENTRY POINTS The entry points for the MMEL are: •

cockpit effect ( ECAM warnings: flags, local and Class 2 for A320 Family) • Cabin and flight crew, maintenance team observations For the A380, the Class 4 messages are not related with a cockpit effect but a dedicated ECAM warning is triggered by the end of the interval period and the MMEL must then be applied once this warning is triggered.

ECAM WARNING/MMEL ENTRY

ECAM WARNING/MMEL ENTRY SECTION 00E The list of warnings is in the Electronic Centralized Alert 00E warnings show NO DISPATCH. For others, the details of the conditions for dispatch are described in the related MEL ITEM Number (in MMEL section 01). The aircraft can then be released to Service, in accordance with this MEL item.

Each ECAM WARNING is addressed by the related MEL ITEM Number, unless the related CONDITION for dispatch is NO GO for which the statement is "NO DISPATCH". Some complementary observations can be addressed by the column REMARK. Troubleshooting might be necessary to determine the conditions of the warning as indicated in the column REMARK (e.g. actual caution / false caution)

MMEL ITEM SECTION 01 146BU

The details of the conditions for dispatch are described in the related ITEM (in MMEL section 01). This section can be reached from the ECAM WARNING / INDEX by using the ITEM Number. A MMEL ITEM provides the following information: •

The "rectification Interval" gives the maximum period of time of aircraft operation granted with the system declared inoperative. • The "Number Installed" recalls the number of equipment on the aircraft. • The 'Number required for Dispatch" states the minimum number of equipment operative required for next departure. • The text in "REMARKS OR EXCEPTIONS" provides the required actions, limitations and conditions for dispatch. NOTE: for explanation on how to read the page content, a description is given in the first pages of this Section 01. The dispatch conditions may also include the three following symbols: • • •

“*” requires a placard "SYST" INOP" on the control panels as appropriate. (o) must requires the accomplishment of an Operational Procedure by the CREW: before or during the flight (in section 02). (m) must requires the accomplishment of a Maintenance Procedure published in AMM by the mechanics, before aircraft departure.

TEST OR CHECK PERIODICITY

RECTIFICATION INTERVAL 147BU

The rectification intervals are basically as follows: •

CAT A when interval is stated in the column "REMARKS OR EXCEPTIONS" (for example: one (Flight). • CAT B when interval is allowed up to 3 consecutive calendar days. • CAT C when interval is allowed up 10 consecutive calendar days. • CAT D when interval is allowed up to 120 consecutive calendar days. The maintenance must make sure to re-activate the system function within the permitted time period.

The (m) task may include a particular BITE Test: Operational test: an inspection or a deactivation. Whatever the periodicity defined in text: such a test or check must be done before next aircraft departure. Then two possible situations: • •

When no periodicity is defined: this is a one time test or check, When periodicity is defined: the test or check is done again at the specified interval (Daily, Weekly, ...).

The day of discovery of the failure is not included in the rectification interval (except for A Category expressed in flight hour or flight cycle).

INOPERATIVE/ FAULT TOLERANCE

CDL 53B

The observation reported either by the Flight / Cabin crew or the maintenance team directly refers to the MMEL ITEM (MMEL section 01)

Some dispatch condition uses the term "operative" or "checked operative When a MMEL item specifies that a system "must be operative", it does not imply that its status must be confirmed. An item is considered operative as long as it is not reported to be malfunctioning in the logbook. When a MMEL item specifies that a system "must be checked operative", it means that it must be checked, and confirmed operative within the time limit specified in the MMEL. The check is available in the associated maintenance procedure ( published in the AMM ).

CONDITIONS VERIFIED/ OTHER FAULT MESSAGE 150BU

Many Aircraft systems are faulty tolerant and these systems generate maintenance fault data. Basically Fault messages alone do not demonstrate that the system is inoperative. The crew alone has the operational view on the operative status of the system. The Crew decides for the reporting on the Technical Log. Should the DEFECT be reported on the TechLog, the DEFECT must be compared with the criteria in the MEL. Once the MEL ITEM consulted, a specific Test or Check may be required by MEL to verify the condition of the system.

CLASS 2 – MAINTENANCE STATUS 15BU

Basically, as per Airbus Design: CLASS 2 Faults do not impair operations nor necessary system checks (GO without conditions). The crew, as per the Airline Flight operations policy, can decide for the reporting of CLASS 2 failures on the Technical Log on the last flight arrival of the day (A320) or when the aircraft is back to main maintenance base (A330/A340). For the A330 / A340, such faults have no consequence on the system operating conditions. (A330 and A340 MMEL do not address CLASS 2 failures). The rectification criteria is detailed in the TSM INTRO section 00, all Class 2 faults must be fixed every A check (800 FH) for the A330 or the A340. For the A320 family, such faults have basically no consequence on the system operating conditions, except for maintenance status "BLUE RSVR" (very early production A/C not yet modified) and the maintenance status "AIR BLEED", for which particular conditions exist (see MMEL). •

The rectification interval is for most items 10 days, as per MMEL section 01-00, but MMEL must be consulted to find the related rectification interval.
