‘The White Thrill’ was written on behalf of the Musikkapelle Sankt Anton am Arlberg, Austria. The theme refers to a ski race—Der weisse Rausch—that takes place every year in Sankt Anton. The composition is in the form of an overture, with a majestic introduction, a fast section, a slow section and a reprise of the fast part. A beautiful and ingenious piece.

‘The Way to Heaven’ was commissioned by the Royal Air Force Music Services. 2015 was the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which took place between July and October 1940, when the courageous fighter pilots of the RAF thwarted Hitler’s ambitions to launch an invasion of the UK. H

This work was commissioned by the Miyazaki Prefectural Police Band from Kyushu, Japan, and was premièred in 2017. Bandmaster Sano is an elder alumni of Musashino Academia Musicae, Toyko, where Satoshi Yagisawa also studied. He asked Yagisawa to write a brilliant one-minute fanfare that could be played as an opening piece for any concert. It will be perfect for yours!

This work was commissioned by the Osaka Kyoiku University Wind Orchestra. The world premiere took place with trumpet soloist, Osamu Kumashiro and was conducted by the composer, who was inspired by the famous Ponte Vecchio during a visit to Florence. The solo part can also be performed on euphonium or alto saxophone.

The work is composed in a very modern style, incorporating many contemporary saxophone techniques. This is definitely a piece that saxophonists, band, and listeners will enjoy.

The main role in this attractive march is played by the harmonic elements of minor and major. These ingredients are supported by a solid bass passage, various dynamic contrasts and a lovely cantabile trio theme. ‘Bandshop’ is a wonderful march that brings pleasure to performer and listener alike and is ideal for any concert program.
‘Grand March’ was composed in 1995 for the All Shizuoka Youth Band of Japan. The piece opens with a majestic fanfare. A superb-sounding march, with a commanding character, follows. The talent of this Japanese composer reveals itself in the distinctly lyrical character of the trio section, which contrasts wonderfully with the first lyrical themes of the score.

This piece came about as a Christmas gift for Valentin, the composers’ youngest son. Valentine is also the patron saint of lovers. He is said to have been a poor priest who healed a blind gir l, and gave flowers from his garden to those who sought help and comfort. Saint Valentine’s day has been celebrated in February each year since the 14th century as a day devoted to love.
‘Into Your Eyes’ was commissioned by the Nielse ConcertBand (Belgium) to celebrate its tenth anniversary. The band was formed through the fusion of two existing music societies by the late Michel Versavel, who was the combined ensemble’s first conductor. This wonderful chorale is a hymn to his memory, and is dedicated to the further gr owth and advancement of the band.
