Opening Activity Read page 169 of your workbook.

Reading carefully and silently.

“Pinakbet” Ingredients: ¾ cup pork liempo, cut into strips ¼ cup strained bagoong isda 1 ½ cups rice washing 1 pc. Medium tomato, sliced ½ tbsp. ginger strips 2 squares tokwa, fried and cut into cubes ¾ cup squash chunks 6pcs. okra, sliced 4 medium eggplants, sliced 1 large ampalaya, seeds removed and sliced 1 small bunch sitaw, cut into small pieces Procedure: 1. Sauté pork until light brown. Add bagoong isda, rice washing, tomato, onions, and ginger. Bring to boil. 2. Simmer for a few minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients. Cover and simmer for 15mins.or until cooked. Makes 8 servings. Modify the amount of ingredients to serve 3 ½ times the number of servings in the original recipe. Developmental Activity 1. How many servings will the modified recipe serve?

8 servings multiply by 3 ½ is equals to 56/2. Reduce to lowest term equals 28.

2. How many pieces of okra are needed to make 3 ½ times the recipe?

6pcs. okra multiply by 3 ½ is equals to 42/2. Reduce to lowest term equals 21.

3. How many cups of pork are needed for 3 ½ times the recipe?

¾ cups pork multiply by 3 ½ is equals to 21/8 or 2 and 5/8.

4. How do you changed mixed numbers to improper fractions?

Multiply the whole number by the denominator. Then add the product to the numerator.

5. How do you multiply fractions?

Multiply the numerators to get the numerator of the product. Multiply the denominators to get the denominator of the product.

3. Generalization:   

To change mixed numbers to improper fractions, multiply the whole number by the denominator. Then add the product to the numerator. The result is the new numerator over the given denominator. To multiply fractions, multiply the numerators to get the numerator of the product. Multiply the denominators to get the denominator of the product. Express the product in lowest terms. If the factor is a mixed number, change the mixed fraction to improper fraction first before finding the product. 4. Application:

Teacher Activities

Student Activities

Change mixed fraction to an improper fraction. 1. 7 ¾ = 2. 12 ½ =

1. 31/4 2. 23/2

Find the product. 1. ¾ x ½ = 2. 2/3 x 1/8 =

1. 3/8 2. 2/24 reduced to 1/12

IV. EVALUATION A. Change each to an improper fraction. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
