Specifications

SpectrAA Base software User interface:

Features Varian’s innovative ‘worksheet’ concept for data display. Analytical results are presented in a spreadsheet format of samples (rows) and elements/wavelengths (columns). Each worksheet cell provides the concentration or absorbance (intensity) result for each sample and element result with a simple click of  the mouse. Datalog displays the history of events including instrument parameters used, all analytical results and any software messages.

Methods and sequences:

Entry of the element symbol recalls recommended method parameters (including recommended temperature program for furnace methods). Method search facility. Measure up to 999 randomly selected samples for up to 30 methods. Analytical method ‘Cookbook’ information available for each element. Programmable delay before start of any method for system stabilization. Optional tube condition or tube clean facility at start of each furnace method. First measurement at start of sequence can be either Calibration Zero blank, Calibration, Reslope or solution. Pause autorun at any time and restart from any method/sample. Interrupt autorun for measurement of any element/sample combination without pausing the autorun using Random Sample function. Options to store signal graphics during analysis. Sequence completion options include control over lamps, flame and alarm.

On-line cookbook:

Analytical methods ‘cookbook’ information displayed for each method in the Method window. Includes typical calibration graph and list of alternative wavelengths with comparative sensitivities and any other analytical recommendations.

SRM Auto-optimization:

Surface Response Methodology (SRM) auto-optimization routine can be applied to optimize graphite furnace parameters for any selected elements. The SRM Wizard models the absorbance as a function of the ashing and atomization temperatures and sets the recommended optimum parameters into the method.

Measurement modes:

Absorption or flame emission using PROMT, Integration, Integrate Repeat, peak height or area, furnace PROMT height or area. Pre-read delay variable from 0-999 secs. Up to 20 replicates with read time from 0.1-30 secs. Minimum Signal Facility skips to the next sample if the first measurement is less than the specified minimum reading. Different number of replicates can be selected for samples and standards.

Sampling modes:

Supports manual or autosampling with flame, furnace and vapor operation.

Pre-emptive sampling:

Allows the software to calculate the time required for sampling and reading when using flame autosampling. When enabled, the software will move the probe to the next sample while a reading is in progress. The reading is completed using the remaining solution in the transfer line. This reduces the pre-read delay, improving the productivity of flame analyses by up to 15 %.

Smart Rinse™:

When enabled, the software will monitor the absorbance signal during a rinse until it falls below the user defined minimum absorbance, or the rinse time has elapsed. Once the min. absorbance value is reached, the next sample is automatically presented. Smart Rinse automatically optimizes the rinse times, eliminating contamination and improving sample throughput when using flame autosampling.

SIPS support:

Supports both single pump SIPS-10 or dual pump SIPS-20 Sample Introduction Pump Systems.

Weight and volume correction:

Optional during run. Also allows correction for pre-analysis dilutions. Correction factors may be imported in ASCII format.

Internal standard correction:

Corrections can be applied on-line in Fast Sequential mode to improve precision and accuracy by correcting for physical differences, sample preparation errors or long term drift. Program the system to monitor the absorbance of a selected internal standard analyte and apply corrections to all elements included in that measurement. Requires optional PRO software.

Calibration and blank correction:

Up to 10 standards with separate Calibration Zero blank and multiple Reagent Blanks. Calibration in Concentration, Bracketing Standards, Standard Additions and Direct Abs readout. Signal Expansion factor of 0.1-100 available in all calibration modes. Choice of 8 least-squares calibration algorithms from New Rational, Rational, Linear, Quadratic and Cubic (weighted fit or forced through zero). Calibration goodness of fit data display can be viewed or printed for compliance with GLP requirements. Programmable recalibration and reslope rates for each method. Built-in excess curvature and inflection tests provided with user-selectable error action options including Stop; Continue in Abs or Switch to Next Method. Create a ‘Reference Calibration’ from any current calibration. This can be displayed and overlaid with the current calibration to help assess goodness of fit.

QC Protocols:

Ten Quality Control tests for flame, vapor and furnace AA: QC Blank, QC Standard, QC Spike, Matrix Spike, Lab Control Sample, Duplicate, Precision (replicate %RSD), Correlation Coefficient and Detection Limit tests. Each test offers action options in the event of test failure, including: Stop; Flag and continue; Retry, flag and continue; Recalibrate and repeat; Switch to next method. All data is date and time stamped. QC Tests may be performed at a defined rate (based on solution or replicate measurements) and/or added manually into the sequence. Optional PRO software extends QC Protocols supporting further flexibility from a simple equation editor and extended capabilities that allow testing to US EPA and US CLP protocols. Other international compliance standards can be easily met by customizing QCP.
