Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689 – 1755) was quite popular as a composer and theorist in 18th Century France. He composed more than 102 major pieces for nearly every instrument. Performers and audiences alike loved his music, and it was typed and retyped leaving him a rather wealthy man.
These Six Suites are from his Opus Nr. 27 published in 1730 as a collection of easy playable pieces for the vieille, musette, oboe or baroque flute. They are very well suited for the recorder and are in the original key. Despite the simplicity of their technical requirements the Suites contain many delightful treasures of musical ideas and artistic expression. Each Suite ends with a different dance. The order of movements are also varied in each suite and among the 35 movements there are 22 different forms! The articulation and ornamentation marks are suggestions of the editor and reflect the interpretation of the Companion Tracks CD’s. The track numbers at the beginning of each part indicate the appropriate track to play along with. (For example: To play first treble in the first movement of Suite No.1 choose “Tr16/CD1” to have Companion Tracks play second treble only)
