OBJECTIVE At the end of this lesson, the pupils are expected to: 1. describe the rotation of the planet Earth on its axis. 2. recognize and describe that the rotation of the Earth produces observable effects such as day and night. 3. locate the different places in the globe. 4. value the importance of the Earth’s rotation. II. SUBJECT MATTER Topic: Rotation of the Earth Materials: Globe, flashlight Reference: Science & Health, Adventure in Science-IV, B. Esguerra. Page 204-207. Duration: 1 hour

2. Prayer T: Before we will start our lesson, let us pray first. (Teacher leads the prayer)

Okay, let us check your attendance, say ‘’present’’ when your name is called.

(Pupils raise their hand and say ‘’present’’ as the teacher calls in their name)

4. Review Okay, children share with me what you have learned so far about the planet Earth. would you give some information of our planet Earth? Very good! You had a good recall of the past lesson.

As far as i can remember, Earth is the third planet in the solar system and only planet can sustain life. This is the planet where we live.

5. Motivation (Teacher presents a globe) Children, look at what i am holding. Tell me what it is.

That is a globe.

Alright. What is a globe?

Globe is a model of our planet Earth.

Very good. Now, if I will spin the globe, are the places of the globe moving?

Yes.

6. Presentation Now, our lesson for today is about Rotation of the Earth.

Now, i am going to divide you into two groups. Every member of the group should cooperate. First Group: List the countries having day time . Second Group: List the countries having night time. I will give you three minutes to do that. Are you ready ?

Since three minutes have passed. We will check your work on the board. Choose a representative in your group to present it.

First Group: Bahamas ,Bahrain Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belgium, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, Cape, Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Chile ....

Second Group:

Oman, Pakistan, Palau, Palestinian State, Panama, Papua, New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland Portugal.

How does the Earth spins?

Earth spins on an imaginary line called axis within 24 hours. It rotates toward the east or in a counter clockwise direction.

What is the cause why we have day and night?

Because of the Earth’s rotation.

How many hours is one day? 24 hours.

Now I want you to divide yourselves into three groups. Each group must compete to arrange the scrambled letters I presented. 1. The fifth planet in solar system.

Answer: Revolution

V. Assignment

Teacher’s Activity T: Class, for your assignment, I want you to draw our planet Earth facing with the sun. Colour the both side of the Earth representing day and night time. Draw it in a 1 short bond paper. T: Any question regarding with the assignment?
