4,500MTPD sulphuric acid plant Rudi R. Phili ppines Country Manager Manager
Hi all. Our project is considering the inclusion of a 4,500MTPD sulphuric sulphur ic acid production facility , complete with power generation generation ability.
Rudi
I am interested to get some more information on acid plants of this size, specifically information on typical steam and water balances, typical operating costs and typical capital costs for such an installation.

Rudi, There are just a few plants of that capacity built and in operation in the world. Outotec designed at least two plants of this size and they are both in service. MECs just completed a project of that size in USA, and I believe that there is another one in Jordan, which has not been completed yet. Chemetics did their first sulphur burning acid plant c/w power generation in South West Australia, but I am not sure whether whether it is still in operation. operation. Any of t hese companies companies would be be able to provide the information that you need. Alternatively, t here is a number of specialists; including me, which can help you doing a preliminar assessment. Geert J. Managing partner @ www.H2SO4.pm
Dear Rudi, Geert As an independan independantt sulphuric acid solutions provider/consultant provider/consultant i c an advise you, that when you are thinking sulphuric acid plants of this size, combined with best power generation performance you should consider installing a special type of IPAT tower in your plant (=Heat Recovering System). MECS can provide such a tower called HRS tower: it combines high concentration/high temperature acid in order to have at least as possible enthalphy that cannot be used in your power generation. Off course investment cost will be higher.

4,500MTPD sulphuric acid plant | LinkedIn MECS's competitor in this technology, Outotec, can also provide you a heat recovering system for improved power generation, called HEROS. It has a less proven track record however. (http://www.outotec.com/39417.epibrw) I had the pleasure to troubleshoot, precomm, comm and start up some of these type plants throughout the world (1.000MTPD, 1.000MTPD & 3.500MTPD). When you or your company need in depth help with doing the feasiblity/investment study to proceed with these sort of projects, you can always contact me, Greetings, Geert Jamaer +32 473 425779

plant capacity:4500 MTPD Requirement of sulphur:1498 MTPD (STACK EMISSION BELOW 500 PPM) Requirement of AIR FLOW: 412500 NM3/HR steam generation: 6480 mt/day normally raw water requirement must be 10000 m3/day but you have to go with condensate recovery system. so your raw water requirement will come down to only 2000 m3/day. DM water generation must be 500 m3 per day(if condensate recovery installed) Dilution water around 480 m3 per day (you can use raw water if your quality good or otherwise your DM Water requirement must be 1000 m3/day). cooling tower water make up+ blow down requirement around 1000 m3 per day(if crps exits) power generation it should be around 225 MWH PER DAY with turbine if you were going to power generation. normally full plant load power requires 150 MWH so you can save 75 MWH POWER every day. First you have to do the feasibility study and conduct the brain stromming sessions for identifying the future bottele necks of the process and choose the best automation supplier for to run AUTO MODE with interlocks for PLANT SAFETY. Major requirement is catalyst AROUND 810000 ltrs . i hope these details i have been with my practical experience. mail to me if you have any qurees.
