NEPAL RIVER GANGES BANGLADESH

MYANMAR

THE SACRED RIVER The river Ganges starts in the Himalayan mountains in west India and travels through the north into another country, Bangladesh. It isn’t very long: about 2,520 km. The Nile and the Amazon are longer, but the Ganges is very important to the people in India. 400 million people live near this river. It gives them food and water to use for washing their clothes or having a bath. There are about 140 different types of fish swimming in these waters and also sharks and dolphins! Unfortunately, the Ganges today isn’t very clean and the sharks and dolphins are nearly extinct. People are in danger because they also drink from the river. There are environmental groups today trying to clean the river and protect it. The Ganges is found in one country / two countries. The Amazon is longer / shorter than 2,520km. There are more / fewer than a hundred kinds of fish in the Ganges. The Ganges river dolphin is endangered / safe.
