Cylinder Block, Oil Sump and Main Bearings The engine block is the biggest and single most expensive part of yo your en eng gin ine. e. It is ca cast sted ed in one piece. piece. The crankshaft and main bearings are under slung. slung. The main bearing cap is supported by two hydraulically tensioned main bearing screws and two horizontal side screws. screws. The cooling water header is cast into the engine block. The crankcase covers, made of light weight metal, are sealed against the engine block by means of rubber seals.
