Gaelic Football Last month I watched a football match in Valencia. It wasn’t a big match at a stadium and the type of football was very different. It was Gaelic football! Two teams played at our school. The game started at 11 o’clock but my friends and I went early. We were there at 10! Do you know where Gaelic football comes from and how it’s played? Well, it’s a type of football that started in Ireland, but is now played in many countries around the world. There are two teams with 15 players each, and they try to score goals using a ball that’s a bit bigger than a volleyball. The players can kick the ball

(like in normal football), but they can also hold it, bounce it and carry it in their hands across the field. It’s a really popular sport in Ireland and more people are starting to like it in Spain. There were a lot of people watching the match at my school. Most of the players were Spanish. I’m not exactly sure, but I think only three were from Ireland. After the match, we went to the main square and all the players were there having a sandwich and a drink. I wanted to take a photo with them so I talked to one of the players. He was Irish and he didn’t know any Spanish. So I practised my English! Carlos, 12 years old, Valencia

2 They arrived an hour after the match started. _____

3 Only Irish people play Gaelic football. _____

4 A volleyball is the same size as a Gaelic football. _____

Inspector Jackson is talking to four witnesses about a bank robbery. They’re at the police station and the witnesses are quite nervous. They’ve all got an alibi. Let’s see what they have to say.

VICKY

STUART

MR HARRIS

CHARLIE

I was at the bank from eight o’clock in the morning, but I wasn’t there when the robbery happened. It was lunchtime, and I was with my friend Celia. We were in the café in the shopping centre from twenty to twelve until quarter to one. After that, I was at the bank sitting at my desk again until half hast five.

I was late for work at the bank that day, because the bus was late. But I was at the bank at half past eight. Later in the morning, I was at the post office with Mr Harris. He had some very important letters, so we went to the post office to post them. After lunch, I was at the bank again at half past one, and I was there all afternoon.

It was a horrible day! In the morning, I was at the airport with my family. Now, they’re on holiday in France. The traffic was very bad, so I was late for work at the bank. I was at the bank at about quarter past nine, I think. Later, I was at the post office with Stuart. I was away from the bank from half past eleven until quarter past two.

I was at the bank at quarter to nine in the morning. When I arrived, Vicky and Stuart were working. Vicky was at her desk, and Stuart was next to the door. The bank wasn’t busy and there weren’t a lot of people. I was at the bank all day until six o’clock, except from half past one until two o’clock, when I was at the supermarket.

1 ________________ was at the bank before 8:15. 2 ________________ was the last person who arrived at the bank. 3 ________________ and ________________ were at the post office in the morning. 4 ________________ was at the bank all day, except for 30 minutes at lunchtime.

It closes at 7 in the evening. Sarah: OK. 2 a Is it open the same time at the weekend? b Does it open on Saturdays? Man: No. Opening hours on Saturdays are from 10 till 5.30. The garden is closed on Sundays. Sarah: Thank you. 3 a Can I ride my bike in the garden? b Is it possible to cycle to the gardens? Man: No. That isn’t possible. It’s important to protect the trees and plants. You can’t climb the trees, play games with balls or cycle in the garden. Sarah: Oh OK. And one last question. 4 a Is there wheelchair access?

b Is there a wifi zone? Man: Yes, there is. You can use the internet at the café and there’s an app you can get from the website. Sarah: Thank you very much!
