Inspe nsp ection cti on of nozzle nozzle holde hold er se s ealing li ng surf s urfa ace This bulletin concerns WÄRTSILÄ® 20, 20DF and Auxpac 20 engines.

Engine type Note!

For W20DF engines these instructions instructions does not concern the pilot injection valve. The nozzle holder sealing surface should be inspected every time the nozzle is disman d ismantled tled from the injection valve:

General

Wear on the nozzle holder sealing surface increases increases the risk for leakage. Wear on the impact bush increases the needle stroke and may when exceeding the needle stroke limit eventually cause reduced nozzle lifetime and decreased fuel effeciency.

Impact bush wear  L1 = Distance between the centre line of the t he bore for the t he connection piece and the surface where the nozzle is seated. B=

Recommendation

Inspect the nozzle holder sealing surface carefully and measure m easure the impact bush wear, follow the instructions on the next page. Replace the nozzle holder if the wear exceeds the specified limits. See chapter 16 in the engine instruction manual for reference.

Measure the distance (L1) between the centre line of the bore for the connection piece and the surface where the nozzle is seated. This can be done e.g. using a depth caliper according to the method described below. Measure the distance from the nozzle holder sealing surface to the straight surface of a spare connection piece, mark the measuring point on the connection piece. Write down the result as distance L.

Fig. 2 Measuring distance L

Measure the diameter of the connection piece at the mark from the earlier measure (diameter varies becuase of manufacturing tolerances), write down the result as diameter D. Calculate L1 according to: L1 = L + D/2. Measure the impact bush wear (B) using e.g. measuring device 848 051.

Fig. 3 Measuring device 848 051 1.

B < 0.10 mm:

If the nozzle sealing surface is in good condition the nozzle holder can be accepted for further use. 2.

B > 0.10 mm:

If the distance L1  is less than 91.2 mm, the nozzle holder must be scrapped. If the distance L1  exceeds 91.2 mm the nozzle holder can be sent to an authorized workshop  for reconditioning.
