AAC® provides sonic camouÞage with a design philosophy g p p y called SCILENT®, state-of-the-art computer which blends state-of design and high-tech metallurgy. Around here this means you’ll see things in this catalog you don’t normally see. To help you navigate what’s what, use this handy guide to the left.

THREAD MOUNT Thread mount silencers rely on the traditional arrangement of screw threads to join a silencer to the muzzle of the host frearm. This simple and robust system is most commonly found on rimfre and centerfre pistol silencers, and some centerfre rife silencers. The advantages of the thread mount are lower cost compared to fast-attach silencers and the versatility of being able to use one silencer on multiple hosts with the same muzzle threads.

RATCHET MOUNT™ (51T) The revolutionary Ratchet Mount™ System is the most intuitive silencer mounting system available. Users are able to securely install the silencer on the weapon in under three seconds with one hand and without the use of tools. A spring biased ratchet latch engages teeth on the mount and prevents the silencer from loosening during use. To combat fouling, the very action of dismounting a Ratchet Mount™ silencer breaks the bonds of copper and carbon that can solder less inspired silencer designs to their muzzle devices. Installation is as simple as threading the silencer onto the mount’s ACME threads until tight. Removal requires a squeeze of the ratchet latch lever while unscrewing the silencer.

RATCHET MOUNT™ (90T) If the 51 tooth Ratchet Mount™ system was revolutionary, the new 90 tooth Ratchet Mount™ is evolutionary. Based on feedback from customers, AAC designers confgured a new family of BLACKOUT™ fash hiders and muzzle brakes with a 90 tooth gear and revised bearing surface. This revised mounting geometry provides a rock-solid interface between the silencer and host frearm, reducing point of impact shift and enhancing accuracy.

My old department hosted a SWAT demo that included a MP5SD 9mm sub-machine gun. The MP5SD is an integrally suppressed design that was AMAZING. After that I was hooked. I never wanted to shoot a loud gun again. Loud Guns Suck! I am the biggest fan of the 300 AAC BLACKOUT™ cartridges there is. The 300BLK is the cartridge I always wanted. Not only does it give you the size and sound of the MP5SD platform, but our MPW 9” PDW is about a pound and a half lighter as well. BUT, the 300 AAC BLACKOUT™ also has the ability to fre full power rife ammunition as well, something the MP5SD could never do. Advanced Armament Corp. and the 300 AAC BLACKOUT™ MPW kind of bring me back full circle to that day over 25 years ago.”

R&D also calculate the optimum wall thickness of the outer tube to provide the greatest strength and durability with the least amount of accuracy-robbing heat mirage. DESIGN & MATERIALS There is more to a successful silencer design than lathe turning a handful of parts that ft together, disrupt gas fow, and look good on the end of your favorite roscoe. Of equal importance is the material in which the silencer is rendered. Application awareness and painstaking research are necessary to determine if stainless steel, Inconel®, aluminum, Titanium, or a combination thereof is warranted to provide a product that will meet the performance and durability expectations of the customer. The R&D department at AAC® is responsible for asking the tough questions and coming up with the answers. Our R&D staff is an interesting group of thinkers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines under whose unique focus no design challenge stands a chance. Hours are spent analyzing the performance of prototypes and the infuence they have on the host frearm. Sound performance is captured, examined, and archived for future analysis using a Brüell and Kjaer digital pulse system designed in conjunction

with AAC®. The effects of back pressure are studied with high speed digital video recordings using a high speed video camera. And since you never really know a design until you destroy it, we perform a comprehensive postmortem examination on the wreckage using a scanning electron microscope. Knowing what it takes to break your invention is one of the frst steps toward building the perfect beast. The interior of a 5.56mm rife silencer is a hostile environment of blow-torch temperatures from superheated muzzle gasses and fying supersonic particles of unburned gun powder. The baffe cores in all AAC® 5.56mm and 7.62mm fast-attach silencers are made from Inconel® 718. This special grade of high nickel alloy is used in jet engines, Formula 1 cylinder heads, and by NASA in rocket motors. Inconel® 718 is expensive and diffcult to form and machine, but a lesser grade of material would fall short of our customer’s expectations for durability. The attention to correct material selection doesn’t stop with the baffes. Using long equations that look more like hieroglyphics than math, the inventors in

TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS Circumferential Robotic Fusion Welding AAC® pioneered the use of robotic welders to improve production throughput and insure the consistency and strength of our welding processes. The custom designed CNC welders used at AAC® apply a circumferential fusion weld at the junction of each baffe and adjacent structural component. The end result is a welded array of components with the same structural integrity as a monolithic core machined from a solid billet. Electro Discharge Machine (EDM) Taper Bore The heat from even the most consistently controlled welding process can induce stresses and distortion in a welded assembly. To ensure the projectile path through the silencer is concentric with the bore of the host frearm, all AAC® rife silencers are installed on fxtures that mimic the mounting architecture of the rife muzzle threads or fast-attach mount. While held in precise alignment, the fnal tapered projectile path is cut using a wire EDM process that leaves no burrs or debris in the silencer.

UNDYING SPIRIT. SPIRIT IT This is Brian. Brian is “Branded for Life” with our logo on his is for forearm. Brian is a U.S. Army Ranger who was injured in Afghanistan in 2010, resulting in the loss of both legs below the knee. Heroes like Brian are what drive us to create equipment that won’t fail in the feld. Everyone working at AAC® lives and breathes with an unequalled passion for our products and customers. This passion was ignited nearly 20 years ago by a group of hard-core gun enthusiasts who knew they could make silencers that exceeded the standard of the day. With the confdence and balls-out attitude of an industrial rock band and the genius of MIT graduates, they dedicated themselves to ceaseless innovation and an obsessive drive to challenge the status quo. AAC® quickly set new standards for military and commercial silencer design and performance and became the largest silencer manufacturer in the world. Every silencer we create is a product of our proprietary SCILENT® design philosophy. The SCILENT® design process starts with broad concepts from product “wish-lists” from our commercial and military customers. AAC’s® core group of thinkers and designers render and refne these concepts in the virtual world of solid-model engineering. Design effciency is analyzed using the latest computational fuid dynamics and fnite-element analysis software before our inventions take shape as prototypes that are tested for sound, fash, and durability. Only the most cutting-edge, effective products survive this process and make it to the fnal product stage… and into this catalog.

SILENCER BENEFITS

BENEFITS OF SILENCER USE Silencers are the world’s best hearing protection from the potentially harmful and painful effects of gunfre noise. Silencers protect the shooter and those nearby from permanent hearing threshold shift that can result from exposure to a single unsilenced gun shot.

www.ADVANCED-ARMAMENT.COM

• A silencer helps a shooter maintain command and control by enabling team members to communicate during live åre exercises or in combat.

• By virtually eliminating muzzle ýash, silencers prevent “blooming” of night vision equipment and help preserve unaided night vision.

• Silencers generally improve accuracy when used on riýes by promoting the harmonic stabilization of the barrel and reducing gas-induced instability as the projectile exits the muzzle.

• Silencers enable more accurate and rapid follow-up shots by reducing recoil and muzzle ýip.

• Silencers allow new shooters to learn more quickly by minimizing recoil and muzzle blast, allowing the instructor’s commands to be clearly heard.

• For military and law enforcement, when every member of the team goes SCILENT™, the opposition is instantly identiåable by their muzzle ýash and noise.

Want to start a debate hotter than Georgia asphalt? Just sit down with your shooting buddies and start talking about silencers. You can bet good money that someone is going to stand up and tell you, “It’s a suppressor, not a silencer.” Let’s end that argument once and for all. IT’S A SILENCER!! In 1908, Hiram P. Maxim, son of machine gun inventor Hiram S. Maxim, realized that his shooting may be disruptive to the neighbors. Maxim, a considerate genius with a degree in mechanical engineering from MIT, developed the frst silent fre arm, with what he called a “Silencer”. Essentially, Maxim’s invention worked the same as a muffer on a car. Hot and often still burning gas fies out of the gun and rapidly expands in the air at supersonic speed, creating a BANG when a shot is fred. Maxim realized that if he could trap that gas in a confned space and allow it to cool as it expanded through a series of baffes, the sound of the rapidly heated air could be reduced. Maxim’s invention was extraordinarily popular and could be bought at local hardware stores or through the mail for $3.25. Even though Maxim stopped production of frearm silencers in 1930, his design remains as the foundation for every silencer made.

300 AAC BLACKOUT™ AMMUNITION The 300 AAC BLACKOUT™ cartridge is a .30 caliber solution for the AR-15 platform that simply requires changing the barrel. All other components from a mil-spec AR-15 are compatible with the 300 BLK™ cartridge, right down to the magazines which function perfectly with no reduction in capacity. The 300 BLK™ cartridge has as much energy from a 16” barrel as 223/5.56mm does from a 24” barrel. Even from a 10” barrel, 300 BLK™ matches the energy of 223/5.56mm from a 16” barrel, but with a much heavier payload for improved terminal ballistics and enhanced performance through intermediate barriers. This highly effcient cartridge uses less propellant than 5.56mm ammunition, resulting in a rife that is soft shooting with full power ammunition in short barreled CQB confgurations. Less powder makes the 300 BLK™ cartridge uniquely suited for use with a silencer. A 9” barreled AAC MPW with an AAC 762-SDN-6 silencer has an overall sound signature of 129 dB with 220-grain subsonic ammunition. This compares very favorably to the MP5-SD in terms of sound signature, but drastically outperforms the MP5-SD in terms of energy translation (a 220-grain subsonic Sierra OTM vs. a 123 grain subsonic 9mm ball round). If you judge the max effective range of 300 BLK™ based on the U.S. Army M4 hit probability of 500 yards, it’s clear to see 300 BLK™ is ideal for law enforcement and military use, home defense, and hunting. The Barnes “Black Tip” 110-grain T-TSX round has a fat enough trajectory that no sight adjustments are necessary from 0 to 230 yards. The fact this round expands to more than half an inch at 300 yards when fred from a 9” barrel clearly puts the advantages of 300 BLK™ in perspective. PAGE 28

SOUND MEASUREMENT Unless otherwise specifed, all the silencer performance data in this catalog was collected with a Brüel & Kjær digital pulse system using the widely employed industry standard microphone placement of 1 meter to the left of the muzzle at a height of 1. 6 meters. What this means is that when we tell you how well our silencers work, we’ve got the numbers to back it up. We’re not padding the test data in our favor, we go by the military’s rigid and exact testing methods and procedures. Patents issued: US7587969(B2),US7588122(B2),US7600606(B2),US7610710(B2),US7610992(B2),US7661349(B1),US7743693(B1),US7743693(X601),US7789009(B1),US7874238(B2),US7874238(B2), US7905170(B1), US7905171(B1), US7926404(B2),  US7987944(B1), US8096222(B2), US8272306(B1), USD577409(S), USD577410(S), USD582502(S), USD582503(S), USD584786(S),  USD584787(S),  USD585518(S), USD591382(S), USD598066(S), USD610221(S)  Patents Pending: US20110056111(A1),  US20110088540(A1),  US20120145478(A1), (1) For more information on sound testing procedures, refer to Al Paulson’s scholarly work, “Silencer History and Performance” Volumes 1(2) & 2(3).

WHY WE CHOOSE TO PUBLISH PERFORMANCE DATA We publish sound reduction numbers as a service to our customer base, especially the frst-time buyer. When you run across a manufacturer that offers a “general” estimation of performance or posts no performance data at all, you have to ask yourself what they’re hiding. AAC® silencers are in service with the U.S. military after undergoing rigorous evaluation at such esteemed testing facilities as the Naval Surface Warfare Center (Crane Division), Aberdeen Proving Ground, and Picatinny Arsenal. Anyone seeking verifcation need look no further than open discussion forums such as silencertalk.com, as well as the articles published in Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement and Special Weapons for Military and Police by world-renowned silencer authority Al Paulson.
