WARMAN® Centrifugal Slurry Pumps Mechanical Seal

Excellent Minerals Solutions

The Warman® mechanical seal is an industry revolutionizing mechanical seal that does not require flush or quench water, and is designed and developed by the leading pumping equipment manufacturer, Weir Minerals.

The Warman® mechanical seal is a single cartridge type seal developed to seal against slurries without using flush or quench water. Warman® mechanical seal advantages •

Warman® mechanical seal technology, the solution for all applications where Weir Minerals equipment is needed to handle slurry.

1. Capped joint system

5. Elastomeric bellows

The capped joint system in the Warman® mechanical seal absorbs shaft-to-casing misalignment commonly found in heavy duty applications. This feature allows the Warman® mechanical seal to work in worn or out-of-spec equipment.

The elastomeric bellows are components designed to avoid the transmission of vibration from the pump casing to the sealing zone. Its hydrodynamic design facilitates the displacement of slurry towards the back zone of the seal, circulating at low speed without wearing of the rubber and allowing an efficient hydraulic balancing.

2. Compression system Conventional springs have been replaced by a stationary elastomeric ring which is designed to give the system a smooth, constant and uniform compression between the seal faces and eliminates typical clogging found in compression systems of alternative designs. 3. Inherent sealing of face rings A vulcanized elastomer is bonded to each seal face designed to achieve a 100% sealing action, avoiding wear due to vibration. 4. Protected faces Both faces are protected by metallic components, providing resistance to abrasive wear. The contact zone between the faces is protected from crushing caused by solids and particles in suspension.

6. Traction system type clamp Both seal rings have replaced the traditional metallic pins with a retention clamp system. The result is a soft and safe torque transmission, decreasing the damaging effects of frequent start/stop pump operation. 7. Traction of rotatory unit The Warman® mechanical seal ensures maximum adhesion to the shaft by means of axial tightening of the collar ring. 8. Monitoring of seal face temperature Provided as an option, it is possible to connect a thermocouple or RTD to monitor the temperature generated in the stationary seal face, making it possible to avoid seal damage due to dry operation of the pump. 9. Centering clips Clips allow for concentricity adjustments and centering of the compression system.
