Happy Snowman

About copyright: It’s really something great when people like what I have designed. You can sell the final item or whatever you like, but it would be nice to reference where you found the pattern!
If there is anything you do not understand or there are any mistakes, please, send me a message! As you can see in the way I write, English is not my first language. So, you could come across some mistakes and grammatical inconsistencies. Sorry and my apologies! I’ve always liked snowmen. The city where I live is very cold in winter, but snow is not very common! So, I’ve written this pattern to have my own snow-doll. ABOUT YARN: I had in my stash this Bubble yarn from Stylecraft (50 gr = 55m). It fits nicely in the idea! The nose has been crocheted using a standard yarn in orange. The trousers, boots, mittens and hat use Chenille cotton from Crystal Palace.
ABOUT GAUGE: It is not important, as far as you are consistent with your tension. ABOUT HOOK: It depends on the yarn. I’ve used a 4 mm hook. Remember that when making amigurumis, stitches should be tight. YOU WILL NEED: White: 2.5 skeins. Bubble, StyleCraft Green: 1.5 skeins, Cotton Chenille, Crystal Palace Purple: 1 skein, Cotton Chenille, Cotton Chenille, Crystal Palace. Black yarn for the mouth Orange yarn for the nose. Two big safety eyes. Stuffing. Tapestry needle.
ABOUT CROCHET TERMS: I’ve followed the US terminology. Stitch: st Chain: ch Slip stitch: sl st Single crochet: sc
FLO: Front Loop Only BLO: Back Loop Only Sc2tog: decreasing two sc (i.e., 2 st become 1) NOTE: All the decreases are worked as invisible decreases.
ABOUT THE PATTERN: All the pattern is worked in spirals, so do not join at the end/beginning of a row. The snowman is worked almost in one piece.
SNOWMAN Scarf Using green Chain 75, Row 1-4: sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. Fasten off
Using purple Row1: Working in one of the narrow sides, join purple and sc evenly across, 1ch, turn (4 st) Row2-5: sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. (4sts) Fasten off and weave ends.
Repeat at the other side, but do not fasten off.
Finally, sc all the border of the scarf using purple:
Fasten off and weave ends.
Buttons (make 2) Using purple
Chain 4, (the three chains closest to the hook count as the first dc), bobble as explained below. Sl st at the same chain where the dc are crocheted (this way the bobble has a roundish shape) How to do a Bobble: as explained in: http://www.redheart.com/learn/articles/learncrochet-bobbles: Work five double crochet into one stitch, leaving the last loop of each on the hook, yarn over and pull yarn through all six loops on the hook Hat Using green Round 1: 2 ch and 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook). Hands and arms Using green There are three parts: thumb, hand and the arm. The first two are worked using green and the arm using white. The thumbs are not stuffed. Body Using green We are going to join together both legs in a similar way than the thumb and the hand:
We sew together the corresponding st from one leg to the other. We can sew them or sl st. And then: Round 1: sc in each of the remaining st of both legs, we should have 22 sts, but to ease increases in following rounds, we can increase two sc in this round, so the final number is 24 sts. Round 2: [2sc in next st, sc in next st] repeat 12 times (36 sts) Round 3: [2sc in next st, sc in next 5 st], repeat 6 times (42 sts) Round 4: [2sc in next st, sc in next 6st] repeat 6 times (48 sts) Round 5: [2sc in next st, sc in next 7st] repeat 6 times (54 sts) Round 6: [2sc in next st, sc in next 8st] repeat 6 times (60 sts) Round 7-10: sc in each st across (60 sts) Change to purple Round 11-12: sc in each st across (60 sts) Change to white Round 13-17: sc in each st across (60 sts) Round 18: [sc2tog, sc in next 8 sts], repeat 6 times (54sts) Round 19: [sc2tog using invisible decrease, sc in next 7st], repeat 6 times (48 sts) Round 20: [sc in next 3st, sc2tog using invisible decrease, sc in next 3st], repeat 6 times (42 sts) Round 21: [sc2tog using invisible decrease, sc in next 5st], repeat 6 times (36 sts) Round 22: [sc in next st, sc2tog using invisible decrease, sc in next 3st], repeat 6 times (30 sts) (Stuff body as you go) Round 23: [sc2tog using invisible decrease, sc in next 3st], repeat 6 times (24 sts) Round 24: [sc2tog using invisible decrease, sc in next 2st], repeat 6 times (18 sts) Round 25: [1sc in next st., 2sc in next st, 1sc in next st] repeat 6 times (24 sts) Round 26: [2sc in next st, 1sc in next 3st] repeat 6 times (30 sts) Round 27: [1sc in next 2st., 2sc in next st, 1sc in next 3st] repeat 6 times (36 sts) Round 28: [2sc in next st, sc in next 5st] repeat 6 times (42 sts) Round 29: [sc in next 3st., 2sc in next st, 1sc in next 3st] repeat 6 times (48 sts)
