H&F have check/delay routes. $ is the primary read, W is secondary read. If the read is "zone", then it becomes a "weak side read" concept. If it is man, look Z, then F. Feel free to adjust Z's route during man to man coverage.

S is primary read for man/zone. Just like before, if it is zone, it turns into a "weak side read" concept. Weak C is secondary read.

H&F check delay off of the OLB's. He said "undoubtably" the MLB will be skewed to one side of the center. Center will call 1/2 slide protection to the side of the MLB and BOB to the other side. If the MLB is not skewed, he would put in a 2x2 or 3x1 set and keep the leftover RB in the same split back alignment to force the MLB to declare a side/skew. This protection is for the quick passing game.

Progression is Z, F, Y. H&F are still check/delay routes. If $ goes flat, throw to F on the spot route; If $ takes curl zone, throw to Z.

Key to this is Z runs a "take" route. It is not a fade/fly/streak. He attacks the inside shade of the defender responsible for the nearest deepest area and forces said defender out/to cover Z. In this diagram, the $ is the primary read and flat defender is the secondary read.

There was also a TE "CHOICE" package. It was pretty much the TE finding the open hole with a 12 yd curl choice. Z runs a fade and the RB to the strong side runs to the flat. If the LB was covering TE over the top and got depth, TE would stop immediately on the curl. If LB was tight, TE  would hit the LB to create space and then curl. Tedford mixed this in  with all of the other "concepts" that he had.

These are not J. Tedford's handouts. These are my copies of everything that he drew up during his presentation on his passing game at Cal.
