 On April 21, DISH, the 4  largest mobile operator in the U.S. announced that it would host cloud-native 5G RAN (5G O-RAN) and 5G SA Core software  on AWS, a public cloud, to build a commercial 5G network for the first time among major U.S. operator s: running all 5G network functions except RU in the public AWS clo ud. Implement both public and private 5G networks.  Dish 5G Vendors: Fujitsu(HFR), MTI, Altiostar, Mavenir, Nokia, Allot, Palo Alto, Netcracker,





 Dish has been performing PoC verification with AWS so far, far, and plans to build a commercial network from LA by the end of thi s year. It pla ns to cover 70% of the American population by June 2023.



Rakuten, Japan's fourth mobile operator, also implemented all 5G network functions in software except RU, which is a hardware. The difference is that Rakuten built its COTS server/virtualization platform in its data center and installed NFs such as DU, CU, UPF, and 5GC CP on COTS servers, but Dish hosts all NFs except RU on the AWS infrastructure. It is also different in that Dish hosts NF not only in Dish's data center but also in AWS's data centers (AWS Local Zone and AWS Region).
