General Maintenance Instructions Sliding Guides
General Maintenance Your ThyssenKrupp Elevator is the finest piece of equipment of its type on the market today. It is designed, manufactured and installed to minimize maintenance. However, maintenance must be provided to prolong the life of your equipment and protect your investment. A planned sequential procedure, regularly performed, will keep your maintenance cost to an absolute minimum and ensure realization of the long trouble free service the equipment was designed to deliver. The procedure should begin the day the elevator goes into service. Cleanliness of the elevator's components, machine room and hoistway cannot be overstressed.
Every precaution should be taken when servicing any elevator, whether specifically mentioned here or not. Common sense precautions should be followed making sure life and limb of the person servicing the elevator and the publie is not endangered. Procedures listed in this manual that involve entering the hoistway or machine room should only be carried out by a trained elevator professional. Electrical and mechanical hazards exist for untrained service personnel who are unfamiliar with this type of equipment. Make certain ALL voltage is removed before touching any parts of the electric controller or its peripherals. Due to the nature of some internal controller power supplies, voltage may be present on some components after the input power source has been removed. Always check for voltage with a meter before servicing any component.
1. Check Guide Shoes at regular intervals for condition and adjustment. Check the clearance between guide shoes and the guide rails. Sliding shoes should be fitted to the rail with approximately 1/32 " clearance. All bolts holding the shoes in place should be tight. Check that the bolted connections on the guide rail and brackets are securely fastened. 2. For sliding guide shoes, check that guide rails are coated with a film of approved lubricant (nameplate specified) to ensure smooth operation. Guide rail lubricators, when used, are located either at the top of the guide rails or on the top guide shoes. The level of lubricant should be checked regularly and refilled when low.
Cabs 1. Visually inspect the cab for burned out lamps, damaged flooring or carpeting and damage to cab fixtures. 2. Check that all bolted connections on the cab are tightened securely. 3. Ensure that the car sill is clean at all times as trash in the sill grooves can affect proper door operation. 4. Keep the car push button station clean and dry, as dirt or moisture can cause electrical problems.
When access to the pit or hoistway is necessary, see that safety measures are used to protect the public as well as the servicing personnel.

Owner's Manual Gates and Doors
Motors
1. Check the car and hoistway doors and the door operator for ease of operation. Any binding or dragging of the doors indicates a need for alignment or adjustment.
1. Prevent dust accumulation by keeping the machine room and hoistway clean. Dust or dirt accumulated in the windings will reduce the ability of the unit to dissipate heat and impair efficiency.
2. Ensure that the doors are plumb and close completely. Excessive looseness may constitute a safety hazard.
• Should dust collect, blow it out, taking precautions to guard against personal injury as well as to avoid damage to the equipment.
3. The guide grooves in the hoistway sills should always be kept clean. NEVER sweep dirt or trash into the hoistway. 4. An experienced ThyssenKrupp serviceman should check the power door operation, linkage and door hardware regularly. Checklist • Ensure that all pivots in the linkage mechanism on the doors have free operation and are lubricated sparingly. • Inspect brushes regularly on DC motors and replace when worn excessively. • Check for proper operation of the switches and sensors which governs acceleration and deceleration of the door operator motor.
2. Check the brushes of DC motors for wear and replace where necessary, using only genuine ThyssenKrupp brushes. NOTE: Use of the wrong brushes may seriously damage the commutator and/or interfere with the operation land adjustment of electrical components. 3. The spring tension ofThyssenKrupp brush holders is automatically maintained and never needs adjustment. • Check to be sure the brush is free in its holder and the spring is applying even pressure. ThyssenKrupp recommends that brush replacement be done by a qualified serviceman.
• Check that the pick-up rollers and clutch operate smoothly. • Check the vee belts on the drive wheel and motor for tension, fraying or splitting. Failure to provide this regular maintenance, beginning when the equipment is new, will eventually result in premature failure of components with consequent equipment breakdowns. ThyssenKrupp Elevator strongly recommends that maintenance be carried out by a member of their national qualified service organization. There is no substitute for the trained eye and hand of an experienced elevator serviceman. Rotating electrical equipment. Use strict safety precautions when performing these tasks. Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry or other items that can become entangled in the moving parts of the machine or belts. Never place yourself physically in a position where unexpected motion of the machine could be harmful.

Power Unit
Jack inspection should only be made by qualified ThyssenKrupp personnel.
1. Check the following: a. The machine room is well ventilated and proper clearance is provided around the Power Unit per local code requirement. b. Oil level is within the safe limits as shown on the indicator. Only use hydraulic fluid that meets ThyssenKrupp specifications. Contact your local ThyssenKrupp Office for the fluid recommended for your area. c. Check that all belts, if used, are properly tensioned. d. Ensure that any fluid leakage is cleaned and that all covers are in place on the Power Unit.
Controller All maintenance and adjustment of the controller should be done by qualified ThyssenKrupp personnel as they are best qualified to safely and correctly perform the necessary steps.
..
1. Inspect jack head for cleanliness and leakage. Remove any debris or oil that has accumulated.

Care and Cleaning of Architectural Metals
I
Listed below are suggested care and cleaning instructions and typical products for use by building owners. Any cleaning
or refinishing, other than routine, should be handled by qualified professions.
#4 Brushed and #7 or #8 Mirror Finished Stainless Steel The use of chloride-containing cleaners must be avoided. Surfae damage will occur from the use of such cleaners. Routine cleaning with a mild dishwasher liquid will remove fingerprints, smears and everyday liquids such as soda, coffee and other beverages. Consumer type glass cleaners
are also effective on fingerprints and beverage spills and a good stainless steel cleaner can also be used. Do not use abrasives such as scouring powders. Always finish with a light rinse of warm clean water.
#4 Brushed and #7 or #8 Mirror Finished Muntz (Bronze) Only routine care and cleaning is recommended. The surface should be waxed weekly with paste wax (or more often depending on building traffic). This puts a protective coating of wax over the lacquer and reduces scuffing. Do not use any abrasives or chemical cleaners. This type of product will
cause damage. Recommended cleaning is to remove spills, smears and fingerprints with a soft cloth dampened with plain tap water. If this recommendation is not followed, early failure of the coating will occur.
ThyssenKrupp Baked Enamel Finishes Routine cleaning with a mild detergent, soap and water will remove fingerprints, smears and everyday type liquid spills

Owner's Manual The following is a list of the major components of a Door Operator. See Figure 1. (It includes a description of their functions, overview of some of the critical adjustments and maintenance information. See Installation and Maintenance for details.)
• Adjustable Arm - The arm mounted to the drive wheel. Used to change the amount of linear door movement or stroke.
• Idler Arm - An adjustable arm mounted to the front of the door operator which controls the tension of the 3Vbelts between the jack shaft sheave and the drive wheel.
• Connecting Arm - Connects the drive arm to the door panel.
• Intermediate Arm - Adjustable linkage connected between the drive wheel adjustable arm and the pivot arm. The connection at the pivot arm is adjustable to control the length of the intermediate arm.
• Door Operator Support - A metal plate welded to the header. The Door Operator is mounted to the Door Operator Support with (4) four bolts through the (4) mounting slots of the Door Operator.
I,
• Drive Arm - The linkage connected between the drive arm support and the connecting arm.
• Mechanical Stops - Metal L brackets mounted to the front of the door operator. The stops have slots to adjust the amount of drive wheel rotation. Once positioned they limit the physical rotation of the drive wheel.
• Drive Arm Support - The bracket on top of the door operator containing two holes. The drive arm should be connected to the right hand hole, as you look from the hatch, at the front of the door operator.
• Motor - 115V or 230V DC Motor • Pivot Arm - Connects the drive arm to the intermediate arm. Provides an adjustment for the length of the intermediate arm.
• Drive Wheel - A metal sheave containing a slotted cam surface. The adjustable arm mounts to the drive wheel and is adjusted in the slotted cam surface. The drive wheel is driven by the jack shaft sheave using 3 Vbelts. Adjustment of the linear door travel or stroke is accomplished by moving the adjustable arm. Moving the adjustable arm closer to the center of the drive wheel results in less door travel for the same amount of wheel rotation. Moving the adjustable arm toward the outside of the drive wheel results in more door travel for the same amount of wheel rotation.
• Sheave, Jack Shaft - A spoked sheave driven by the door operator motor with a single V belt. The motor sheave drives the jack shaft sheave which drives the drive wheel. • Sheave, Motor - A sheave attached directly to the door operator motor shaft. • Support Strut - Unistrut legs on the rear of the door operator. Used to secure the rear of the operator to the car top and to plumb the face of the drive wheel.

Maintenance 1. Check that the motor mounting bolts are tight.
• If belts are replaced on mUlti-groove sheaves, they should be changed as a matched set.
2. Remove the brush covers (where applicable), blowout the brush holders, check the brushes for wear, and reinstall the covers. 3. Inspect the operator belts for cracks or glazing, even wear (on both sides), that the belts are not bottomed out in the grooves and for proper tension (belt slippage).
NOTE: The following guidelines apply when testing, adjusting, or replacing belts: • Ideal tension is the lowest tension at which the belt will not slip at peak load. • All belts in the set should be tested for equal tension by pushing each belt down at the midpoint between the pulleys. (Typical deflection is 3/ 8 " with 10 Ibf applied.)
4. Check that all linkage bolts are tight. 5. Remove the door operator cover and rotate the door operator by hand and check the operation of DOL and DCl sensors. 6. Check the operation of the gate switch and that it is adjusted per code. 7. Using a burnishing tool or clean rough paper, clean the gate switch contacts if necessary. Replace the door operator cover. 8. Check for excessive bearing wear.
• If belts require tensioning, sheave alignment should be checked with a straight edge.

MEMCO Elite Model 640 180ITK INFRA RED SAFETY CURTAIN FOR LIFTS • 154 criss-cross beams offer protection up to a height of 1.8m (5' 10 7/8"approx) • Diagonal beams-to-close • Low power consumption • Microcontroller based TX and RX (optional power supply box) • Diagnostic LEDs and timeout software • 40mm (19/16") wide profile
system will automatically sense the door separation and adjust itself for optimum performance. No setting up is required. In many installations a separate controller is unnecessary and the detectors can be connected direct to the lift controller or door operator.
Operation The 640 light curtain uses 32 transmit diodes in the TX detector and 32 receive diodes in the RX detector. The light curtain uses a 154-beam pattern when the doors are fully open (Fig 1). The pattern changes to 94 beams as the doors close to approximately 600mm and maintains 72 beams right up to closure.
• 3m range • Center or side-opening installations
Introduction The Memco elite Model 640 safety system provides a light-curtain of infra-red beams operating between the lift car doors. Any person or object breaking the beams will trigger the system and re-open the doors. The dense beam pattern will pick up even very small objects between the car doors. The 640 safety system consists of atransmitter detector (TX) and a receiver detector (RX) mounted on the car doors. The
Surface mount technology has led to a great improvement in the optics allowing diagonal beams to function to door closure. The diodes are manufactured using a technique which improves both consistency and reliability. The special lens is used in conjunction with the surface mount diodes to optimise the system performance.

Owner's Manual Installation
Software Features
The Model 640 can be installed on center-opening (Fig 2) or side-opening (Fig 3) doors. The unit is normally configured for centreopening but using the Quick Fix strike post moulding, the 640 can be converted in seconds.
Power Reduction Function This software feature prolongs the life-span of the detectors by putting them into a less active state when the lift is not in use. It automatically activates when the detectors are stopped very close together for more than 10 seconds. In this mode, scanning is reduced to once every 2 seconds. If the doors start to open, or an obstruction is detected, then the normal scanning and trigger mode is resumed.
The QuickFix mouldings allow fast installation to the elevator door in any position along the 2050mm long fixing flange.

SYSTEM CONNECTION
Using a Memco Power Supply
For trouble-free installation we recommend installing the 640 system with a Memco 280 power supply. However in many situations the 640 can be directly connected to the lift controller or door operator.
A Memco power supply eliminates concern about the electrical environment into which the 640 is being installed and simplifies wiring. (See Figure 8.)

Owner's Manual The detectors have AMP connectors preinstalled which fit onto the pin headers provided in the 280.
Direct Connection The connectors are keyed and can only be installed in the correct position. If forced incorrectly by the installer the locking tab will be broken and can cause possible damage to the detectors.
The Memco power supply provides: • a regulated DC supply for the 640 detectors • a relay output for connection to the door re-open circuit • an audible tone when the light-curtain is broken (Note - this can be disabled)
The 640 can be connected directly to the lift-controller or door-operator if it has a suitable power supply and "door reopen" circuit. A special adaptor cable is required for Thyssen lifts. The power supply must be regulated DC (11-30V) with no transients. The door reopen circuit must accept a transistor drive and the current must never exceed lOOmA.
• Model 280 is powered from an AC supply (115V) The Model 280 is factory-set for "fail-safe" operation using standard PNP-N/C 640 detectors. However switches are provided to allow detectors with other transistor configurations to be used.
Contact Memco to discuss direct connection in more detail.

Up side adjustments do not affect down side adjustments nor do down side adjustments affect up side adjustments. The power unit should be located in a room that is ventilated and heated between 50°F and 80°F.
Be EXTREM ELY careful when making adjustments near moving belts. The procedures contained in this manual are intended for the use of qualified elevator personnel. In the interest of your personal safety and the safety of others, do NOT attempt ANY procedure that you are NOT qualified to perform.
