Steps 1. Check the following items before power-on: a. Check that the voltage of the power supply is proper with correct polarity. b. Check that the antenna feeder is correctly installed. c. Check that the rack, antenna feeder, and lightning protector are properly grounded. 2. Power on the ZXMW NR8250 by performing the following steps: a. Ensure that all modules are powered off. Connect one end of the power cable to the RPUA and PM3 interfaces of IDU. Connect the other end to the external power cabinet or air switch. b. Switch the power of power cabinet or air switch to "ON". c. Turn on the PM3 power switch. d. Turn on the power switches of each RMU board. 3. 2.2 Adjusting Antennas at Both Ends Adjusting antennas at both ends is the most important testing item in inter-link commissioning. This adjustment directly influences the microwave link's performance.

Prerequisite l l l

The single-site commissioning for microwave devices at both ends of the microwave link has been completed. During the commissioning, the weather is fine between the two sites, without rain, snow, or fog. The actual conditions and antenna commissioning personnel meet the requirement for working at high altitudes.

Steps 1. If the distance between the two sites is larger than 2 km, set the antennas horizontally. If the distance is comparatively short, adjust the antenna's downtilt within a small range according to actual condition. 2. Connect the multimeter with the local ODU’s BNC port correctly.

ZTE Proprietary and Confidential

Chapter 2 Commissioning Process

3. Adjust the antenna’s horizontal position: fix the remote antenna, use the multimeter to measure the voltage at the BNC port, rotate the antenna in horizontal direction, and make sure that at least three peak signals of BNC are scanned within the rotating range, of which the middle one has the highest voltage. 4. Adjust the antenna's downtilt: Adjust the antenna’s downtilt at each position when BNC port has the peak voltage to make the voltage at NMC port reach the highest value within the scanning range. Adjust the antenna to the position where BNC has the highest voltage. 5. Adjust the remote antenna. Make the remote receiving level have the highest value. 6. Repeat the steps 1 through 5 for two to four times to make the receiving level at both the local end and the remote end have the largest value. Fix the antennas at both ends. 7. Use the multimeter to test the voltage at BNC port at both ends (switch the voltage side to DC 20 V. Contact the black probe with the outer of BNC and the red probe with the inner BNC). Read the current receiving power according to voltage at BNC port of ODU at both ends and the Received Signal Level (RSL) curve. 8. Tighten all screws of the antenna support. – End of Steps –

2.3 Testing STM–1/4 Service This section describes how to verify the availability of STM-1/4 service if the service is available.

Prerequisite l l

Antenna adjustment at both ends is completed. There is STM-1/4 service between two sites.

Steps 1. Connect the device with the commissioning PC and set the corresponding IP address, as shown in Figure 2-4. Figure 2-4 Connection Diagram for STM–1/4 Service Environment

2. Configure the IDU boards, as shown in Figure 2-5. a. Connect the IF interface of the RMU board to the ODU through a cable. 2-3 SJ-20110920155816-006|2011–11–15 (R1.0)

b. Connect the receiving end and transmitting end of the bit error tester to the transmitting end and receiving end of the local optical module respectively.

Note: The optical modules used for STM-1 and STM-4 services are different: STM-4 service uses a 622 M optical module. STM-1 service uses a 622 M or 155 M optical module.

c. Use a fiber to perform loopback for the opposite end. Figure 2-5 Configuring STM-1/4 Service Test

2.5 Testing Inter-Site ETH Service If Ethernet service is available between sites, you can verify the service availability through testing the Ethernet service. To facilitate on-site commissioning, use the ping package method, which is simple and requires no additional equipment.

Prerequisite The Ethernet service is configured between two sites. If the device operates in VLAN mode, ensure that the connected Ethernet port of the computer is in Access mode, the air interfaces of the devices at both ends are in Trunk mode, and correct VLAN ID is configured.

Steps 1. Set up the test environment, as shown in Figure 2-19. Set the corresponding IP address. Figure 2-19 Test Environment

2. Use a cross-connect Ethernet cable to connect a port of Ethernet service at the local end with the commissioning computer. 2-10 SJ-20110920155816-006|2011–11–15 (R1.0)

3. On the commissioning computer, select Start > Run. In the pop-up Run dialog box, type cmd. Then, click OK. 4. In the displayed MS-DOS window, run the command ping 193.254.1.2 -n 20, where 193.254.1.2 refers to the IP address of the IDU at opposite end. If the system displays Reply from..., as shown in Figure 2-20, it indicates that the Ethernet service is connected. Figure 2-20 Connected Ethernet Service

If the system displays Request timed out, as shown in Figure 2-21, it indicates that the Ethernet service is not connected. Figure 2-21 Blocked Ethernet Service

5. After the ping command is executed, check the transceiving data statistics. If the statistic data contains Lost=0 (0% loss), as shown in Figure 2-22, it indicates that no package is lost. Figure 2-22 Packet Loss Check

2.6 Testing Inter-Site EOW Service This test is performed when an Engineering Order Wire (EOW) phone is installed at the site. It helps verify whether the EOW phone works normally.

Prerequisite l l l

Antenna adjustment at both ends is completed. There is an EOW phone on the site. In Web LMT system, the transmit units are enabled in the EOW Configure page. Proper configurations at local end and opposite end are completed.

Steps 1. Pick up the local phone directly and press the EOW calling button on the RCUA board to call the opposite device. The buzzer on the opposite device beeps. 2. The receiving party picks up the phone. If the talk is clear, it indicates the EOW service is normal. – End of Steps –
