FOREWORD To write a musical work on the Resurrection is such an honor! But how can anyone adequately portray the power of the Resurrection? How can the glory of a redeemed life be described in a 16-minute performance? How can a human choir capture the beauty of Christ for others to see, when we ourselves can’t even begin to grasp the magnitude of it?
nl y
My prayer for this short Easter cantata is that it will be a springboard for both your choir and your congregation: a catalyst to help them focus on the beautiful plan of redemption, and on what Christ’s resurrection means to us all.
O
Blessings, and Happy Easter!

PROGRAM NOTES
rP
This mini-cantata is approximately 16 minutes long if performed seamlessly from start to finish. This time includes a small Congregational Worship set that allows for audience participation. However, if you choose not to use the Congregational Worship set, the cantata could easily end successfully with “In Christ Alone/Christ Is Risen.”
Fo
It is recommended to have two narrators: a male and a female. Stylistically, the narration will be most effective when read in a warm, sincere tone, rather than a formal, austere voice. The narration will begin after the opening song “Christ Is Risen/Christ the Lord is Risen Today,” and will be underscored by the accompaniment throughout. While there has been careful consideration given to the timing of the accompaniment and the narration, it is recommended that you rehearse this several times to feel how they come together. Narration cues are included in the piano score.

BEAUTIFUL ONE NARRATION Narrator #1: The most beautiful gift is one that requires great sacrifice. The most beautiful person is one who has endured great pain. The most beautiful redemption takes place when no return payment can be made. Today we celebrate the beauty of Christ.
O
nl y
Narrator #2: From the moment Christ entered our world, His beauty began to touch this fallen creation. The crude manger became a symbol of hope, and cattle were among His first worshipers. You can almost hear the adoration of the angels afar and His mother near, as they welcomed the tiny Savior.
ew
(CHOIR SINGS) Beautiful One I love, beautiful One I adore, beautiful One, my soul must sing. Beautiful One I love, beautiful One I adore, beautiful One, my soul must sing.
re vi
Narrator #1: The beauty of Christ became more evident as He grew into a man. He loved the unlovely, embraced the outcasts, and was overcome with compassion for those who were needy.
rP
Narrator #2: Lives were changed by simply touching the hem of His garment. And all who came to Him were accepted: there was no rejection. His forgiveness to those who mistreated Him showed the beauty of His great love.
Fo
(CHOIR SINGS) Wonderful, so wonderful is Your unfailing love. Your life has spoken mercy over me. No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart could fully know How glorious, how beautiful You are. Beautiful One I love, beautiful One I adore, beautiful One, my soul must sing. My soul, my soul must sing, My soul, my soul must sing, Beautiful One, my soul must sing. Narrator #2: The most wonderful and horrific display of Christ’s beauty, though, was not in His life, but in His death. As He traded places with all mankind, redemption was complete. (CHOIR SINGS) Beautiful One I love, beautiful One I adore, beautiful One, my soul must sing.
39
IN CHRIST ALONE/CHRIST IS RISEN NARRATION Narrator #1: (building in joy and energy) But this is the gospel we preach: that Christ died, and was buried, and that He rose again! Our Savior is not dead, but lives even today!
nl y
Narrator #2: So what then should we do with this truth?
O
Narrator #1: Believe! Embrace the beauty that has been offered to you: The beauty of second chances; The beauty to live in freedom from our past, and our weaknesses.
re vi
ew
Narrator #2: The beauty of repurposed wounds. The beauty of a Father-God. The beauty of a risen Savior!
