WOMEN AND CHILD WELFARE

Social welfare is aimed at protecting those sections of the society which are weaker especially women and children  Women and children play an important role in the family as well as in the society  Women and children are usually the soft targets who suffer a lot because they are weaker ,helpless and economically dependent 

MAJOR PROBLEMS Women face problems like:  Gender discrimination  Devaluation at home and workplace and in the society  Harassment  Mental torture 

By the data provided by the MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHIILD there are high number of cases regarding: Abduction Dowry deaths Rapes Domestic violence Mental torture and harassment

TO ENSURE BETTER DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN THE NEEDS TO BE MET ARE: Awareness Nutritious food Proper education Healthy environment

STRATEGIES FOR THEIR WELFARE GOVT of INDIA established the MINISTRY FOR WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT in 1985  There are women groups and women cells  There are NGO’S like:  National commission for women  Rashtriya Mahila Kosh  Central social welfare board 

Organizations like UNITED NATIONS DECADE FOR WOMEN  CEDAW(International convention on the elimination of all kinds of discrimination against women) All these fight for women’s rights their welfare and upliftment. 

LAWS AND RULES IN INDIA The protection of women against sexual harassment at workplace bill,2007  Protection of women from domestic violence act,2005  Dowry prohibition act,1961  Indecent representation of women  National commission for women act  The commission of sati(prevention)act and rules 

FEMALE INFANTICIDE It refers to killing of girls at or soon after birth  Girl child is considered to be shameful, unacceptable and a BURDEN even now a days  Sex ratio decreased from 972 females for every 1000 males in 1901 to 929 females for every 1000 males at present  Maternal health law of 1994 restricts the use of technology to determine the gender of foetus. But the use ultra sound machines to know gender are more prevalent 

CHILDREN WELFARE

Children are considered to be assets of the society  But figures show that out of 21 million born every year one million are killed soon after their birth due to socioeconomic reasons  Many children work as child labors, mainly because of poverty 

SOME WELFARE PROGRAMMES IN INDIA BALIKA SAMRIDHI YOJANA  CHILDREN IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMMES  INTEGRATED CHID DEVELOPMENT SERVICES(ICDS) 

WORLD SUMMIT ON CHILDREN HELD ON SEPTEMBER 30,1990 had focussed on the well-being of the children  INDIA is also signatory to the WORLD DECLARATION ON SURVIVAL ,PROTECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN  A national plan of action by the MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT has been formulated for child welfare 

THUS ITS HIGH TIME FOR US TO WORK TOGETHER FOR A SECURE AND CLEANER ENVIRONMENT SO AS TO GIVE OUR CHILDREN A CLEANER AND SAFER WORLD TO LIVE IN
