Scope This Specification covers the packaging and labeling requirements for liquid and paste coatings and related solvents and curing agents.

Conflicts and Deviations 2.1

Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs), Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the Manager, Consulting Services Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or  Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302 and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of  Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

References The selection of material and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of equipment and facilities covered by this specification shall comply with the latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted. 3.1

Packaging Requirements 4.1

Coatings, Liquid and Paste 4.1.1

Quantities up through 5 L shall be packaged in multiple- friction-top, double-tight-ring cans. For airfreight shipments the lids shall be Page 2 of 4

additionally secured by 3 securing clamps or spot solder points.

4.1.2

Quantities greater than 5 L through 20 L shall be packaged in open-top style, 24 gage (minimum) metal pails or drums with either a lug cover or  a rimlock bolted cover. The containers shall be furnished with a wire  bale handle having a nominal diameter of at least 4 mm and fitted with a  plastic, wood, or metal hand grip. The handle shall be fastened to the sides of the container by ears or clips riveted or welded in position.

4.1.3

All sealed containers shall be leak tight. Any signs of leakage shall be cause for rejection.

Thinners and Solvents (Also Acceptable for Clear Coatings and Sealers.) 4.2.1

Quantities up through 5 L shall be packaged in rectangular metal cans with screw-top closures fitted with an inner friction seal.

4.2.2

Quantities greater than 5 L through 20 L shall be packaged in closed-top, screw-cap style pails or drums fitted with inner friction seals.

4.2.3

Quantities greater than 20 L up to 200 L shall be packaged in drums with rim-lock bolted covers.

Additional Requirements for Multiple-component Kits 4.3.1

Each component of a multiple-component kit shall be separated from the others.

4.3.2

If the separation between components is removable or collapsible, it shall withstand normal shipping and storage conditions.

4.3.3

Curing agent shall be packaged in welded metal containers.

Labeling 5.1

Each separate container shall be marked in Arabic and English with the applicable Manufacturer's name, the product identification number, the Material Master Number 9COM or 9CAT, date of manufacture, the shelf life or expiry date for a maximum storage temperature of 35°C, and the batch number.

5.2

For the case of 2- or 3-component kits, if the components are boxed together in kit form, it will be sufficient to place the applicable Material Master Number  9COM or 9CAT, date of manufacture and an identification for the batch number  on the outside of the box rather than on all the individual components. However, each individual container shall contain the other information required

in paragraph 5.1 plus a cross-reference to the other component(s) in the kit. (Example: Hardener xyz for use with Resin Base xyz.) Labels shall also contain the precautionary requirements of ANSI Z1 29.1.
