Waste and Waste water management During work execution, Subcontractor shall appropriately manage the entire life cycle of produced waste in order to minimize its amount and hierarchically follow the practices of reuse, recycling, recovery, treatment and final disposal in approved disposal sites. The subcontractor will issue a Waste Management Plan in order to identify each waste and assess their handling, treatment and disposal method for Hazardous and not hazardous. The waste storage will be periodically inspected from Contractor in order to verify the proper segregation between hazardous and not hazardous waste. It is mandatory to record each waste disposal activities through filling appropriate waste manifest and report to Saipem the monthly waste record register in order to monitor the waste management from the project site to the final destination. Subcontractor shall ensure that sewage waste shall not be discharged into any waterway drain, watercourse or the ground, but it will be properly managed as per Contractor disposition.

Spill Preventio n and Respo nse Subcontractor shall make every effort in order to assure the protection of environment and workers health and safety against accidental spillage and potential risk that may occur during site activities. In order to fulfil the above commitments a Spill contingency plan shall be prepared and implemented by Subcontractors in accordance with Contractor Spill contingency plan. In particular, Subcontractor shall ensure that during work execution all operations are conducted in order to avoid the risk of a spill situation or, whenever an accident occurs, implement measures and actions to prevent its escalation. Starting from the identification of the main situations in which a spill of pollutants may occur, the Spill plan shall outline strategies for spill prevention relevant to the site activities and describe procedures for the control and limitation of the releases. The basic scope of this document is to: •

identify all hazardous substances on site and provide the relevant MSDSs; identify the types of spill and the scenarios which could possibly occur and lead to pollution; identify the prevention strategies and the response actions to be adopted in case of pollutants release (spill kit and drip tray to be available at site); describe the organization that shall deal with the problem, both during prevention and response phases;

describe the procedure to be adopted for alerting Contractor, Employer as well as other parties involved in emergency management.

Prior to the commencement of any construction activities, all involved Subcontractors personnel shall be provided with training concerning environmental contingency situations.

6.4

Air emission s and contr ols Main emissions sources during site activities include Dust emissions and Emissions from vehicles;

6.4.1

Dust emissi ons : One of the major impacts related to the construction activities include air emissions resulting from dust generation. Generation of dust may impact on public health, valuable environmental habitats and, secondarily, on visual amenity.

Therefore the subcontractors has to ensure: •

Bulk storage of excavated material should, to the extent possible, be avoided

Tracks and roads should be watered regularly to minimize air borne dust.

Water is an effective dust suppressant and is recommended to be used or controlling fugitive dust emissions from stockpiles, dirt roads and around excavated areas. Contractor reserve the right to ask for additional dust suppression when needed During transportation avoid overloading of trucks with sand, gravel and aggregate and ensure sufficient free board. Trucks traveling to and from the project site with these materials should be covered with tarpaulin to minimize dust 6.4.2

Emissions from vehicles: Principal contributing activities include: •

Emission form transportation, associated with the release of exhaust emissions from vehicles used to transport labour workforce and materials. Emission from construction equipment, associated with the release of exhaust emissions from cranes, excavators, bulldozers, electrical generators and other plant and equipment during construction.

 Atmospheric emissions from these activities include carbon dioxide (CO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOX), carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), sulphur dioxide (SO2), particulate matter (dust). The construction machinery would involve the use of diesel-fuelled mobile equipment and generators, which may generate emissions and odours. Construction machinery will be operated outdoors and would often be moving, therefore increasing dispersion and preventing high concentrations of emissions occurring. Therefore the subcontractors ensure that: This document has been prepared by Saipem Spa for Aramco Overseas Company. Vehicles shall be subject to appropriate routine maintenance programs;

Vehicles engine should be shutoff in case of long pauses in site activities.

6.5

All construction machinery and administrative vehicles shall be regularly serviced and checked in order to guarantee good operation conditions;

Rev. 00

Workers/material transport activities will be planned in order to rationalize direct and indirect traffic All truck exhaust filters shall be periodically checked and replaced in case needed. This practice will assure the emission control for engine exhaust.

Noise Emissions Sub-Contractors shall ensure that when personnel are exposed to noise levels equal to or exceeding 85 dB hearing protection devices shall be provided and their use strictly enforced by supervisory personnel. Contractor reserve the right to ask for noise monitoring whenever needed.
