D Check the position of the voltage selection-switch on the DMCplus rear (see figure). D Select the switch position according to the mains voltage applied (factory setup: 230V). D Select and adjust the appropriate mains voltage and connect the device (230V +6%/-10% or 115V+6%/-10%). The mains plug may only be connected to an earthed socket (protection class I and II). Before opening the device it must in any case be switched off. Disconnect the mains plug. Do in no case use the cable to disconnect the mains plug. Do not start the device if power cables have suffered damage. If an amplifier channel has been removed, a blind plate must be used to cover the slot. Plug-in units may only be operated if installed in the appropriate housing. The device complies with the safety requirements of DIN EN 61 010- part 1 (VDE 0411-part 1) protection class I.

To ensure sufficient EMI-proofness, use the Greenline screening only (see HBM special brochure on the Greenline screening concept, EMI- proof measurement cables, G36.35.0). Appropriate use The DMCplus-system with the connected transducers may be used for measurement and directly related control and regulation tasks, only. Any other use is not appropriate. To ensure safe operation, the transducer may only be used according to the specifications given in this manual. When using the transducer, the legal and safety regulations for the respective application must also be observed. The same applies if accessories are used. General dangers in the case of non-observance of the safety instructions The DMCplus-system complies with the state of the art and is operationally reliable. If the device is used and operated inappropriately by untrained personnel, residual dangers might develop. Any person charged with device installation, operation, maintenance or repair must in any case have read and understood the operating manual and the safety instructions, in particular.

System design DMCplus characteristics: The DMCplus is a digital amplifier system with up to 28 channels (2 channels per amplifier plug-in unit) that is 100% computer-controlled. The system design is characterised by its bus structure similar to that of a microprocessor system. All amplifier plug-in units and function boards in the DMCplus are connected to theCP03 Central processing unit in parallel via a data and control bus. The individual device plug-in units can be connected as desired. Free slots are also possible. DMCplus features: D The system is controlled by a microprocessor. It enables up to 28 quantities to be measured simultaneously on all channels and converts the analogue measurements into digital signals. D Digital filtering enables the frequency response for each channel to be optimally adapted to the measurement task. D Measuring rates of up to 9600 measurements per second and per channel make the DMCplus the right solution for the complete range of mechanical measurement problems. D Its high accuracy and a resolution of max. 20 bits also enable the DMCplus to be used for precision measurements. D The integral measurement memory for up to 40.000 measured values (optionally 500.000 measurements) enhances the realtime-capacities of the connected computer. D The device parameters and the measurements are stored and the data is protected against power failure.

Analogue-to-digital conversion HBM has developed a special ADC method based on a dual-channel 16-bit-converter. Contrary to conventional methods, the HBM converter does not restrict the resolution and converts without loss of information over the whole bandwidth even with highly dynamic processes. A prerequisite for the HBM ADC-method are very short internal signal propagation times which could only be achieved by an IC chip, developed by HBM in gate-array technology. The high-resolution digitisation permits an uncritical selection of the amplifier’s input sensitivity and avoids restrictions and overmodulations. The signal transmitted from the transducer is boosted in the amplifier and then digitised in the whole signal range without loss of information. Each amplifier channel has been equipped with such a component. Measurement conditioning If a channel has been zero-balanced and tared before the actual measurement, the zero-balance and tare value will be added to the current measurement, thus producing a conditioned value that is available for output on the interface. To enhance the measurement accuracy, a calibration can be started by an external command thus mathematically compensating all internal deviations. The measurements are accessible to the computer without reprocessing.

System design

Data transmission rates The amplifiers supply measurements at data rates between 75 and 9600measurements/s. With data transmission rates smaller than 9600measurements/s, measurements are averaged in the gate-array. With even smaller data transmission rates (between 1 and 60measurements/s, the CPU determines an additional average value. Due to this averaging, resolutions of up to 20 bits are obtained. For measurement acquisition, 40 000 measurements (standard) are stored in an intermediate memory and measurements from up to 10 channels are transmitted via the IEEE interface at measuring rates of 9600 measurements per second and stored externally. Therefore, the DMCplus enables a total of almost 100 000 measurements per second to be transmitted.

After power-up, the device performs a lamp test, i.e. all LEDs will light up for a short time (approx.100ms). In operating mode, the LEDs signal the following:

WAITING FOR COMMAND The DMCplus waits for an instruction. BUSY The device is processing an instruction. TRANSFER Requested data is ready for transmission. WAITING FOR TRIGGER The DMCplus is waiting for the trigger event. Status-Signal RDY MEASURE The measurement is running. Status-Signal MSR VALUE OVERFLOW Overflow of the internal buther. or One of the amplifier has an overflow during measurement.

SYSTEM REQUEST System error. The LED is on until the error has been queried with the SST? instruction. COMMAND ERROR A wrong instruction or wrong parameters have been entered. The LED is on until the error has been queried with the *ESR? or EST? instruction. Additional data output of the RDY, MSR and ERR status signals is possible via the SY01 control unit on the I/O socket.
