(Grant & Menge) A.1.
AT LAST, - I T ' S HERE. A f t e r much experimenting the G & M Suspension has a r r i v e d . All f o r m e r drawbacks have b e e n e l i m i n a t e d . The audience see e n t i r e l y under and a l l around the b o a r d . Nothing down on c h a i r s e a t as i n former methods. Juat tv/o f o l d i n g c h a i r s and a b o a r d u s e d . A l l you need t o c a r r y i s the b o a r d . But we recommend t h a t i f you g e t a good s t u r d y f o l d i n g c h a i r i t i s b e t t e r to c a r r y your own, i n case no f o l d i n g c h a i r s are handy where you are p e r f o r m i n g . P o s i t i v e l y no d a n g e r , s l i p p i n g or
sliding.
THE EFFECT; A p l a i n b o a r d i s shown a l l round and p l a c e d a c r o s s the s e a t s o f two c h a i r s . A s h o r t drape i s p l a c e d o v e r the b o a r d , and anyone from t h e audience i s p l a c e d on the b o a r d , which i s t h e n r a i s e d up to b a c k s o f c h a i r s . Then one o f t h e c h a i r s i s removed and the b o a r d and p e r s o n suspend out f r o m the one c h a i r i n a most uncanny manner. Hoops are passed o v e r and a l l around b o a r d , e t c . WORK THIS ANYWHERE, and we mean t h i s . IT CAN BE ACTUALLY USED WHILE SURROUNDED BY THE AUDIENCE, and a l l you c a r r y i s a p l a i n i n n o c e n t looking board. F u l l s e c r e t and workshop p l a n s , so you can b u i l d your own.

SECRET; This,works on the c e n t r e o f g r a v i t y , or c e n t r e o f f o r c e . other words i t works a g a i n s t i t s e l f , v i a a push, and n o t as some might t h i n k , as a b a l a n c e .
In
F i g . l g i v e s you the c o r r e c t measurements f o r the l a r g e s i z e b o a r d . The small s i z e i s made the same o n l y use a 1" x 2" i n the c e n t r e , and i t i s o n l y 2+ f e e t long. P i g . l i s c o n s t r u c t e d by sawing c e n t r e b o a r d i n h a l f . This i s then sawn once more to a 16" l e n g t h . This 16 inch p i e c e i s f i x e d as per P i g . 5 with two s h o r t rods d r i v e n i n t o the c e n t r e end BUT YOU MUST SQUARE THIS TO BE EXACT. These i n turn are f i t t e d i n t o the 2 s i d e p i e c e s and the e n t i r e o u t f i t i s c l e a t e d t o g e t h e r as per P i g . 2 . The c l e a t on gimmick i s made to o v e r l a p the end t o keep i t from pushing through. Also i t has a cupboard c a t c h t o h o l d i t i n p l a c e . See Pig.3. A l l c l e a t s , with the e x c e p t i o n o f the c e n t r e one, are made from 1 inch by 2 inch wood. Centre one i s 1 inch by 1+ i n c h . P i g . 6 shows the I l l u s i o n i n o p e r a t i o n , Gimmick board i s a d j u s t a b l e to d i f f e r e n t c h a i r s by p u t t i n g 2 small screws i n t o the c h a i r b a c k . Use two woodscrews and s e t board to a l e v e l and f a s t e n the screws i n the chairback at t h i s p o i n t . Or, you may n a i l a small s t r i p o f wood to the back o f the c h a i r , which w i l l work j u s t as w e l l . Most c h a i r s w i l l need n o t h i n g . IT IS NECESSARY HOWEVER, THAT YOU USE A FOLDING TYPE CHAIR, and a good sturdy one. I t i s a good p l a n when you f i n d a c h a i r t h a t works w e l l , to c a r r y t h a t c h a i r with y o u ; then you have no worry over c h a i r b r e a k i n g and board not S i t t i n g out s t r a i g h t . Use a l i t t l e o i l on the s p r i n g c a t c h from time t o time t o keep the working smooth and n o i s e l e s s . By easing i t i n p l a c e there w i l l be no n o i s e . In a c t u a l performance you may use anyone from the audience. The l a r g e board w i l l hold up to 15*0 l b s . , the smaller one up to 105 l b s . You a l s o need a small c l o t h . Preferably black v e l v e t e e n with g o l d f r i n g e , b u t anything smart and f a n c y . Display b o a r d and p l a c e i t a c r o s s the s e a t s of the c h a i r s , then throw the drape over the b o a r d and p l a c e the g i r l on same. As you p l a c e the g i r l on the board h o l d c l e a t so gimmick w i l l not f a l l down. Have someone take hold of board a t f e e t end and you take the head end. L i f t the o u t f i t up 7 or 8 inches above c h a i r t o p s , ease b o a r d over to your c h a i r and lower your end o f board down on to your c h a i r b a c k , at the same time p u l l i n g gimmick down-./ards. Let board go on c h a i r b a c k , and c l e a t goes on to back o f c h a i r a's shown i n P i g . 6. Now have person a t f e e t end to lower h i s end down as you s e c r e t l y l e t f l a p wedge a g a i n s t f r o n t o f c h a i r . Now you can remove hands, and board and g i r l w i l l suspend out from the one c h a i r , making a most weird e f f e c t . Reversing the above moves b r i n g s you back t o the s t a r t , whereupon you a s s i s t the g i r l o f f the board. The drape need o n l y hang over a very few i n c h e s . Just s u f f i c i e n t t o hide the gimmick when i n p l a c e down on the c h a i r .
