2.Introduction 4

A robotic hydraulic arm which is hydraulically operated and controlled by syringes filled with some fluid. It consists of various parts connected to each other in a pre-designed manner which are guided in a constrained way to obtain required output.

2.1Concept The basic concept used behind the operation is PASCAL’s LAW. This law statesthat when a pressure is applied at one point of a fluid contained in a constrained volume, then the pressure due to that force is equally transmitted to all the points of the fluid, which are acted upon by the same pressure. Using the same principle, we applied pressure to fluid in syringe which is transmitted to other end of tube which is connected to a syringe. This motion of the syringe is used to move the links or parts of the mechanism which are attached to respective syringes.

2.2Working of Hydraulic Arm Hydraulic arms work with fluid and air power. The word hydraulic refers to scientific engineering that uses fluids as a source of control and transmission power of electronic devices. A hydraulic arm is a piece of machinery that is built to work on the concept of fluid mechanics. They have a motor and pump that work together using pressurized fluid to operate. They are used for various purposes such as lifting heavy supplies and equipment in an industrial work setting. Cranes, bulldozers, and lifts all have hydraulic arms.

3.Literature Review 5

A hydraulic arm works by using high fluid pressure, created by a pump, to force a piston in a cylinder to move.As a valve is opened one way, the fluid is allowed to enter the cylinder and force the piston to move. Harry Franklin Vickers was called the "Father of Industrial Hydraulics" by ASME. Stanford hydraulic arm is a product of the Artificial Intelligence Project at Stanford University and was made entirely at Stanford in 1966-1968 by Victor Scheinman. It was a 6-degree of freedom hydraulic manipulator with a proportional end effector (7th degree of freedom). The arm was located in a glass-walled enclosure in the main computer room with the PDP-6 [computer that controlled it]. Study carried out by Helena, Jayaselan and Wan Ishak was towards reducing the number of workers used to harvest the FFB ( Fresh Fruit Bunch) by using 3D hydraulic arm. These arms are used in assembly lines of mega factories to assemble various parts of a product and also to paint vehicles. They are also used in earth movers to pick up heavy weights and keep them where required, same principle is being used in JCB’s, automobile lifters etc. References:  McNeil, Ian (1990). 4.Objectives  To eliminate the use of complicated gears, cams and levers.  Fluid is not subjected to leakage as compared to mechanical components.  Large power can be controlled by small orifice(syringe)  For lifting and tilting bucket.  To reach the greatest distance to deliver the given object.  To pick up the object.  To rotate as well reach and grab object.

5.Cost Estimation Here are the components that are used in this project:           

Hydraulic cylinders (Syringe with clips and mounts) Hydraulic Lines (Vinyl Tubing) Perpendicular wooden blocks and Dowels Chip board Screws 10 square nuts 10 washers Connector strips Galvanised coloured wire Rubber band Anything else things like the recycling bin, wood, metal, plastic, broken toys, etc.

The total estimated cost for this project is near about 2500 rupees.
