All pneumatic conveying systems include the same basic elements: a) The Feeder
• required to introduce the material into the conveying line, frequently at a controlled rate and against elevated pressures.
b) The Prime Mover

- usually steel pipe, sometimes protected against internal errosion and supplied with long radius bends or tee type elbows. Alternatively, gravity conveying can be achieved through a box sectioned tube with internal aeration known as an Aeroslide. Both devices can be supplied with appropriate valves, diverters or flexible connections as required by the system.

Depending upon the relative proportions of product to conveying gas, the flow of product through the conveying line will take one of several forros ranging from homogeneous flow, where all pa,.-ticles of product are freely suspended, to plugged flow, where the product moves as a slug through the line. For convenience, two basic forros of flow are considered requiring quite different conveying techniques and offering their own particular advantages and disadvantages to the user.

Delute phase systems generally offer a simple inexpensive solution capable of long distance conveying at reasonable pressures, but suffer the penalty of being more costly to operate in view of the quantity of conveying gas required.

Dense phase systems generally offer the advantages of lower wear and product degredation due to the lower convey'mg velocities, low power consumption and small conveying pipework but suffer the disadvantages of limited conveying distance, non-continuous flow and a more complicated operating procedure. a dimensionless quantity used to measure the tendancy of a system towards delute or dense phase. It is measured as the ratio of product mass flow rate to conveying gas mass flow rate. Phase densities below 15:1 are clearly delute phase and above 50:1 clearly dense phase. Between these two exists a 'grey' area, commonly known as medium phase conveying in which the homogeneous delute phase frequently breaks down into 'dunes' flowing along the bottom of the corrveymg line. The selection of a particular type of conveying system (delute, medium or dense phase) will depend upon a number of¡arameters induding the nature of the · product, the process requirements an the relative capital and operating costs. Once the basic type of system has been selected there still remains a number of specific solutions, the design and selection of which will depend upon the relationship between such things as pressure drop, conveying quantities, material characteristics and the physicallayout of the system. This equipment is preven in operation and is available to satisfy most pneumatic conveying requirements. In addition, for a nominal sum, we will perform a study in order to advise the user on the optimum system design parameters for a particular application. Further information on the more standard components in our equipment range is contained in this handbook. Should you require any particular assistance in your system design please let us kuow.

Description
Material is fed either from above or the side into a rotating screw which conveys the material against the pressure of a. check valve intó the pressurized conveying chamber. Air from either a blower (up to 15 psig) or compressor ( over 15 psig) is injected into the chamber through a single nozzle and conveys the material along the conveying pipeline. PETERS OPEN AEROSLIDES - Type 2
·Por fluidizing powdered materials contained in storage vessels such as silos, hoppers, ships' holds so · asto improve conveying capabilities andjor achieve product homogeuization.
The Aeroslide consists of a sturdy metal case with an air-permeable fabric membrane on top. Fluidizing air from a fan or blower is passed into the casing and escapes through the fabric, thus aerating the material being stored or transferred.
