Your advantages

Cyclones are subject to frequent blockage caused by material deposits which occur in the timber industry and mills, especially in the chipboard industry. These lead to abrupt discharges of material on the clean air side. Special sensors are installed in the tapered section of the cyclone to detect this material build-up at an early stage and thus avoid operational interruptions and prevent emissions of harmful substances.

Cyclones with a diameter of up to 3 m can be monitored with standard detectors. Ball-mounted joints enable exact alignment of the transmitter and receiver.

Continuous monitoring of the cyclone for blockages. No undetected material build-up, due to monitoring with the VMX 3001 and shutdown of subsequent machines. Mounting adapter for easy installation and maintenance. Fast maintenance device. Detector LED integrated in the housing enables rapid checking of the detectors operational readiness. Both devices can be connected to an existing spark extinguishing control panel or Minimax fire control panel. Only a free spark detector group is required. Easy Detector alignment is facilitated by ball-joint mountings.

Monitoring is based on the light barrier principle, with a VMX 3001 S infrared transmitter and a VMX 3001 E receiver fitted opposite each other. Air-jet adaptors are provided to prevent the detector window from becoming dirty. The complete detector construction and ball mounting are designed for heavy-duty industrial applications.

Standard detectors can be used for cyclone surface temperatures of up to 70 °C. The signal “Cyclone blocked“ is displayed visually and acoustically on the fire control panel. Floating contacts are provided for retransmission and any desired local alarming and/or shutdown. An analysis time range of 1/10/35 s can be set in the receiver to suppress any brief interference variables that may occur.

Function

Infra-red transmitter VMX-S

Cyclones are used in the timber industry for separating process and conveying air resulting from wood products (e.g. chips, dust and fibres). Separation is based on centrifugal force, with the wood products rotating against the inside wall of the cyclone and downwards to the rotary valve. This principle is also employed for hot cyclones, which separate hot air from wood products after a drying section. This downwards rotation often leads to material blockages above the rotary valve.

Infra-red receiver VMX-E

Differences between MDF and dust Fibres are, in terms of the bulk weight, much lighter than dust and chips. The materials have almost the same colour and the same relative humidity of 8 % to 12 %. These materials are water repellent, due to their dry condition. The sum of these properties must be taken into consideration in the case of a blockage. VMX 3001 S (transmitter) The VMX 3001-S is operated with an emergency DC power supply of 24 V. It is a freewheeling infrared generator operating in light impulse mode. The components are designed as single-hole detectors in the mechanical sense.

Cyclone anti-blockage protection function The present protection concept shall identify a blockage that has already occurred and stop the further feed of material. Material deactivation is always associated with a delay period, as deactivation means a shutdown of the plant. It is not possible to identify bridging during its early formation phase.

VMX 3001 E (receiver) The VMX 3001-E is operated with quiescent current monitored 9 V DC (line voltage). It is an infrared receiver that generates an alarm current on the 9 V line after a set delay period if it fails to receive the triggering infrared light impulses.
