Connecting System Module (FSMx) core cabling

1 Connecting System Module (FSMx) core cabling 1.1

Connecting external power feed Before you start

g

The FSMx core DC input is only used when there is no Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS Power Distribution Sub-Module (FPFD) in the configuration. Make sure that the module is grounded. Choose a DC power cable between diameters of 6 mm to 20 mm.

f

WARNING! Risk of short circuit.

w

NOTICE:

Make sure the main site switch is in the OFF position before you connect the DC power cable.

Incorrect cables and seals may not provide secured weather protection. In outdoor installations, including the outdoor cabinet, use only tested IP65 class outdoor cables with seals provided by Nokia Siemens Networks. This is also recommended for indoor installations. The power cable must be connected before power is applied to the system. Steps

1

Route the DC power cable through the cable entry.

When using a thick cable, the narrow end of the IP boot can be removed using scissors. Cut in one go so that you get a clean cut surface. See Figure Removing narrow end of IP boot below for details. Note that you can insert only one DC cable with a diameter of max. 20 mm to the IP boot. Minimum cable diameter is 6 mm.

Insert the DC power cable to the screw terminal and make sure that the polarity of the wires is correct. Connect the wires to the V48N- and V48RTN+ connectors according to the markings on the cable.

f

WARNING! Risk of power supply failure and, in rare cases, of short circuit. Check that the polarity is correct according to the markings on the cable.

1.2

Connecting internal optical cables Purpose The optical cables connected between the System Module and each of the RF Modules or Remote Radio Heads (or the system extension module) are used for transmitting signals between modules. See Contents of the Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS optical cable deliveries and Contents of the Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS optical transceiver deliveries for supported cables and optical transceivers. Before you start

f

WARNING! Risk of eye damage caused by invisible laser beam. Make sure that the laser beam is switched off when optical cables are installed.

f

CAUTION! Risk of personal injury. Always stop transmission before detaching the optical fibre from an optical fibre connector marked with a warning triangle.

w

NOTICE: Incorrect cables and seals may not provide secured weather protection. In outdoor installations, including the outdoor cabinet, use only tested IP65 class outdoor cables with seals provided by Nokia Siemens Networks. This is also recommended for indoor installations.

w

NOTICE: Overbending the optical fibre cables damages the cables and can detach or damage the connectors. Do not bend optical fibre cables to a radius smaller than the minimum radius of 70 mm (2.8 inches).

w

NOTICE: The optical fibre connector is fragile. Handle it with care.

w

NOTICE: Optical cables are fragile. Always route the optical cables to the left from the connector.

w

NOTICE: Optical fibres are sensitive. The presence of contaminants will lower the mechanical strength of the optical fibre and may dampen the transmission of light in the fibres. Clean all optical fibre connectors before installation using an optical fibre connector cleaning kit.

g

When using two or three parallel optical fibres per RF Module, the difference in lengths between the cables must not exceed 30 m. Steps

1

Remove the IP seals from the relevant optical cable connectors in both System and RF Modules. When pulling out the IP seal, bending it to any direction is only allowed for a maximum length of 2 mm. When the IP seal has come out 2 mm out of its slot, only use axial force to complete the IP seal removal.

1.3 1.3.1

Connecting transmission cables Overview of connecting transmission cabling With Flexi outdoor System Module (FSMF/G), there are three options for transmission: two integrated interfaces on the FSMx core and an optional transmission sub-module. 1) EIF1 interface (RJ45) This integrated transmission interface is marked "EIF1" on the FSMx core front panel. If you are using this transmission option, see Connecting RJ45 transmission cable. 2) EIF2 interface (SFP+) This integrated transmission interface is marked "EIF2/RF/6" on the FSMx front panel. The interface can be software-configured to either GE Ethernet interface for transport purposes or RP3-01/CPRI interface. Note that it is only available for transport if an optional transmission sub-module is not deployed. If you are using this transmission option, see Connecting SFP+ transmission cable. 3) Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS optional Transmission Sub-Module If more or other Ethernet interfaces are required then a Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS optional Transmission Sub-Module is needed. For installation instructions, see Installing Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS optional Transmission Sub-Module (FTIF). For cabling instructions, see Connecting Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS optional Transmission Sub-Module (FTIF) cabling. See Contents of the Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS transmission cable deliveries for a list of cables available.

Connect an EAC cable (FTSI 472578A) to the EAC port. The correct end of the cable is marked with the label "EAC".

3

Push the connector seal firmly in place.

4

Connect the other end of the cable to the Flexi System External Alarm module (FSEB). Alternatively, you can cut off the D connector and connect the other end of the cable to, for example, your patch panel based on the color coding of the cable. See appendix EAC cable (FTSI 472578A) wiring for details.

NOTICE: Incorrect cables and seals may not provide secured weather protection. In outdoor installations, including the outdoor cabinet, use only tested IP65 class outdoor cables with seals provided by Nokia Siemens Networks. This is also recommended for indoor installations. If the DC input cable is not connected yet, see Installing Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS Power Distribution Sub-Module (FPFD) for details. If cable entries are installed, remove them. If you need to connect DC output cables to the FPFD front panel while it is running, turn the power off from the control panel. See Flexi Multiradio 10 BTS Power Distribution Sub-Module (FPFD) control panel for details. Steps

1

Undo the screws holding the FSMx core in place and pull it out slightly.

Table 6

Function of the output Selection phase active

Fault caused by -

FPFD LED indications (Cont.)

No function (neutral): Pushing the SET button outside the selection phase does not do anything. Entering selection phase (neutral): Pushing the SELECT button enters or resumes the selection phase. Starting at the leftmost position (RF1) the LED starts blinking in blue color (blue color is not used for any other kind of signaling). With each additional push on the SELECT button the blinking position moves forward from the left to right position in a circular way. The selection phase ends automatically after three seconds when no button has been pushed within this time frame. Changing output state: Pushing the SET button during the selection phase toggles the selected (blinking blue) output state. As long as the selection phase is active you can toggle the output state with each push on the SET button. When toggling the output state to ON the selection phase is extended to five seconds to give the user enough time to toggle to OFF again (in case of target device malfunction). Restrictions: The SET push button can be re-routed to the System Module. This allows the System Module to judge over the ON/OFF functionality via the push button. Default setup is “no re-routing”. Via priority controlling in FPFD it can be prohibited to alter an output state via the push button when a higher priority “access line” has taken over the control for a specific output. Default setup is “all access lines have the same priority level”. Only implemented or detected outputs can be selected via the SELECT button.
