Laura Ferrante is a founding member of child cancer fund. In 1994, as a result of a personal experience and passion to help, she became a Founding Member of the CHILD Cancer Fund, non-profit organization that provides educational, financial and support services for Jacksonville families dealing with a child’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. Laura is involved with the many programs and services CHILD Cancer Fund provides including the child life specialist position, which provides opportunities for play, learning, and selfexpression designed to minimize the stress and anxiety of a child in treatment. As a cornerstone of our organization for the past 20 years, we continue to provide a grant to Nemours to pay for this very important position. There were over 700 patients served in 2013. The financial assistance program provides a way for families to receive help with housing costs, utility bills, auto loans, auto and homeowners insurance, food, gas, and other expenses that medical insurance doesn’t cover. Thirty-five financial assistance requests were granted in 2013, helping 24 families. Our support services offer families the emotional, educational, and practical support they need to make it through this difficult and challenging experience. CHILD Cancer fund sponsors a family for a retreat weekend Camp Boggy Creek which is a camp that offers families the emotional, educational, and practical support they need to make it through this difficult and challenging experience.
